Lu AnLing sounded like a jealous girlfriend and this was her intention.

Realizing this, she slouched back into her seat. A part of her wanted to rephrase her sentence but she didn't. In this situation, If Rong Xin believed she was jealous, wouldn't that be fine? She wanted to know about the woman, and that was true. Her intentions were most likely irrelevant to the man.

"I can't tell you about the second master's personal affairs."

"Affairs?" Lu AnLing's voice changed slightly. She didn't think Kang Jun was that type of man but the way Rong Xin had worded it sounded wrong.

Hearing the change in her voice. Rong Xin looked at the girl from the rearview mirror. "I didn't mean it like that."

Lu AnLing internally smirked. She had made him feel bad, and now she only needed one more push.

"Mr. Rong, I'm not asking about Mr. Kang's… affairs. I'm asking about your… Young mistress Rong."

Using the man's words against him, Lu AnLing wanted to smirk but instead, she kept a straight face.

Rong Xin gazed at the girl with a blackened face. An uncomfortable feeling began to grow in him. It was one which told him that if he didn't speak, he would be in grave danger. So he spoke.

"Rong Yue Wan. She's unmarried. 31 years old. Second Young Master's ex-fiancée…"

Once he believed he had given Lu AnLing a good overview, he stopped speaking.

"And what about her job history?"

At this question, Rong Xin raised an eyebrow. He didn't understand why that was useful information for the girl.

Lu AnLing sighed. "I just want to compare and contrast."

Hearing this the man was even more reluctant to answer. He knew nothing much of Lu AnLing but sometimes, Kang Jun had sent him to watch over the girl and he understood that she was just a lowly singers assistant and that she had participated in an interview to become a lounge singer at Hotel Helios. Both of those jobs were pretty low-class compared to Rong Yue Wan's.

Due to his silence, Lu AnLing began to feel insulted. Was this man insinuating that there was nothing to compare?

"Hello? Are you alive in there?" Lu AnLing tapped on her forehead with her index finger.

Rong Xin: "Her first and only job was working for Qiao Jianhong."

"That was her only job?" Lu AnLing pursed her lips and asked in disbelief.

"Qiao Jianhong is a very powerful man and he is an old friend of Elder Kang's. This is the only job the woman will ever need. Elder Kang had introduced them when she was still in university. She made a huge impact on both men and to this day, she's his one and only assistant—"

"So you're saying she's perfect?" Lu AnLing sneered.

"That wasn't—"

"I know. I know. I'm sorry." Feeling like she had snapped at Rong Xin rudely, Lu AnLing was quick to apologize. She then looked out the window. Her face was devoid of emotion but her hands were curled up into small fists.

What would such a woman be doing working as a nurse and why would she not tell anyone? What would such a woman need to lie about where she worked? Or did someone cover it up?

From the rearview mirror, Rong Xin looked at Lu AnLing with a complicated expression.

Rong Xin was highly trained in espionage, and many forms of martial arts. Accompanying a little girl and the little young master was far beneath his usual duties. He had told Kang Jun this, but the man didn't care.

When he decided something, nothing said could change his mind.

Watching the girl as she patted Kang Mingyu's head, Rong Xin felt as if the woman was hiding something, and he would bring it up to his boss, but at the same time, he knew it wouldn't matter to the man.

The girl was important to him.

Lu AnLing saw the glint in Rong Xin's eyes, and she could only assume what it meant.

On her lap, Kang Mingyu, who had been awake the whole time stared up at Lu AnLing as her expression darkened and darkened. He grabbed her shirt with his tiny hand and snuggled up to her stomach.

"I'm alright honey, go to sleep…" Lu AnLing lulled the boy as she patted his head.

At the moment, Lu AnLing felt loved. Not only by the boy but by the man who wasn't even by her side. Sometimes, by seeing the expressions of others, Lu AnLing could tell how much Kang Jun cared for her.

The rumors itself in comparison to how he was around her was enough to understand.

A part of her really wanted to give herself to him but she just couldn't.

It wasn't just because of her lost child or Rong Yue Wan, but also because of the infinite thoughts dancing around her head.

Since the day she'd heard Rong Yue Wan's voice outside of Kang Jun's room, the gears in her head had been turning…

Did the Kang family have anything to do with the adoption of her child?

Or maybe it was the Qiao's? After all, Rong Yue Wan was Qiao Jianhong's secretary. He was a powerful man and he could have wiped all evidence of her child's existence.

The thought made Lu AnLing's head throb even more and she began to feel sick to her stomach.

Lu AnLing's only bet was a meeting with a member of the Qiao or Kang families, but she refused to ask Kang Jun and if she decided to speak to Kang Liang about it, she was sure that the boy would end up saying something to someone. He didn't seem like the type who could keep his mouth shut.

This only meant that she had only one option.

She needed to get together with the beautiful woman she'd met… What was that woman's name?

Lu AnLing slowly dug through her bag and found Qiao Lan's card. It was a simple white card with a name and number on it and because Lu AnLing had mistreated it, it was horribly bent.

Taking her phone out, Lu AnLing typed in the number.

Lu AnLing: [Hello, I don't know if you remember me but I'm the one who helped out your daughter at the Starlight Event. I remember you told me to contact you but this week has been a bit hectic so I didn't have the time. If there is anything you need from me, please contact me at this number.]

Typing that message, Lu AnLing's heart palpitated hard. She was a bit afraid.

What would she do if the Qiao's or the Kang's had anything to do with her missing child?

Or even worse, what if Kang Jun was not the prince charming of her story but the villain instead?

She'd already fallen in love with the man, so if that were true. Her heart would shatter into a million unmendable pieces.

The thought made her heart tighten to a painful extent. Feeling this uncomfortable feeling in her chest and stomach, her throat began to burn.

Lu AnLing suddenly felt her head become fuzzy. She leaned the side of her head against the window. Feeling the coolness transfer itself to her bare skin, she began to feel good, but it was quickly overshadowed by the weakness overcoming her body.

Closing her eyes, Lu AnLing drifted into the dark abyss of sleep.
