While Rico's and Dawn's Pokemon were eating their special food, Dawn's Prinplup had ate all its food, and became sad. Rico's Riolu, having a lot of food in its bowl, then shared half of its food to Dawn's Prinplup.
Impressed by this gesture of compassion, Dawn commented, "Wow, your Riolu is very generous."
"Yeah, I know, right," Rico happily replied.
"Yeah, "Dawn replied, "Anyway, do you have parents?"
"Yes, I do," Rico briefly replied, "Lucas Cruz is my father, and Rosario Algavas is my mother."
"Oh, I see," Dawn replied.
And as Rico and Dawn continue chatting to each other, someone from nowhere called, "Hello, kid." Again, the Pokemon Pinchers appeared on their Z.Z. Flyers, this time with Red Eye, their admin. Rico and Dawn then turned around to confront them in response.
"So," Red Eye asked, "Are you the kid who foiled our mission to capture a Riolu?"
"Yes," Rico answered as he stand firmly with bravery, "Yes, I am. I became Riolu's trainer, ...sort off."
"Uh, Rico?" Dawn asked in fear, "Those are the Pokemon thieves you're talking about?"
"Yes, they are Pokemon thieves," Rico replied in seriousness, "They are stealing Pokemon using their gauntlets in their hands."
"You coward! How dare you meddle into our affairs?" the male thief angrily asked upon hearing Rico's exposure of their motive and identity.
"Heh, I do whatever I want, like exposing your identity to anybody," Rico responded in relaxation. This statement caused Red Eye to become angry, call out his Cranidos, and commanded, "Cranidos, use Zen Headbutt!" Then his Cranidos came out of its Pokeball and used Zen Headbutt on Dawn's Prinplup and Typhlosion, which both took a direct hit.
Smoke clouds around them, and as Rico, Dawn, and the rest of her Pokemon shield themselves against the smoke and dust, Rico's Riolu step into the battle and faced mind-controlled Cranidos.
"No!" Rico warned in worry and nervousness, "I don't have any training!" Then suddenly, words from Rico's memorization of Pokemon moves echoes in his mind. Then Rico, looking fiercely brave, commanded, "Riolu, use Quick Attack!" Riolu used Quick Attack, running very fast towards Cranidos, hitting it effectively. Red Eye was shocked at this, and then, in fury, commanded, "Cranidos, use Tackle!" His Cranidos used Tackle, running towards Riolu, hitting it effectively.
"Then use Counter!" Rico commanded Riolu immediately. Riolu then used Counter, retaliating a punch-blow, striking Cranidos very effectively. While Red Eye was shocked in distraction, Rico commanded Riolu, "Then use Karate Chop!" Riolu then used Karate Chop, delivering a sharp chop, hitting Cranidos so bad it fainted. Angered and lost against him, Red Eye called back his Pokemon, and yelled, "We'll get you next time, kid!" He then fled, along with his grunts.
Seeing Rico won a battle and how cool he was, Dawn came and commented, "Rico! You're so amazing."
"Yeah, I know right," Rico cheerfully replied, "It's my first battle, and I won."
