Little change - from now, him talking to the system will be in <these> brackets - I still want to be able to have some distinction between thought and system-talk. I'm gonna leave the previous chapters like they are, but if that's bothering you then I can change them.

-----

'Okay, so here we go.' Meng Li thought before asking the system.

<System, now I can summon humans, is that correct?>

[Yes.]

<So... How does that work, exactly?>

[In truth, you cannot summon humans - that would require a far bigger amount of qi than you're capable of. What you're summoning is a human body with an artificial soul - they cannot cultivate, but they can have children which will be completely normal humans. So the humans you're capable of summoning can only be used for starting civilizations.]

'Huh... So I'll just have to wait a bit before the people will actually be humans... I think I should spend that time in the control room, human puppets sound kinda... creepy.' Meng Li contemplated.

<System, I remember seeing a lot of beasts with cultivation in the summoning tab. How do these beast appear? Can ordinary animals cultivate into beasts?>

[Yes, ordinary animals can condense a core and become beasts. However, the difference between those beasts and the beasts in the summoning tab is that unless an ordinary animal cultivates to an exceedingly high level, their offspring will still be ordinary animals. However, the beasts in the summoning tab have offspring which can cultivate to at least their level, if not more.]

<Okay... Do the beasts have the same cultivation path as humans?>

[No. Beasts grow with their core and their cultivation is drastically different from that of a human. A beast's cultivation is also closely linked to their bloodline - a beast with a purer or stronger bloodline can easily supress a beast with a weaker bloodline with their aura alone. With growing stronger, their bloodline purity increases, and they might be able to evolve. However, beasts with a naturally stronger bloodline will also have a much faster cultivation and might even start with a certain cultivation. That's why the beasts in the summoning shop start at a level - they have a bloodline. The normal animals don't have a bloodline.]

<Did any animals create their own bloodlines in the hundred years that passed?> Meng Li asked the system, curious.

[A lot. There are about ten thousand bloodlines that have evolved. Many of them are previously seen ones, but there are new ones too. About a thousand of the bloodlines are never before seen ones. They have all been added to the summoning tab. Would you like to see a full list?]

Meng Li was astonished. He didn't expect to see that the world, which previously seemed quite barren and lifeless apart from the plants, had such a wide variety of animals.

<System, then how come I haven't seen a single beast since I came? Even an ordinary animal was quite rare!>

[Mostly because you teleported around so much. Secondly, it's because you're subconsciously releasing your aura - your strength is the highest in this world, and naturally, beasts are scared of you. The normal animals are naturally cautious, so even if they don't sense your aura, they simply don't approach something they don't know.]

Meng Li seemed to be enlightened. 'So it's my aura... I didn't even realise I released it!'

His aura was a special thing - he subconsciously knew what it was and how to control it since he broke through to the Qi Sea Realm, but he never quite realised that he knew it. When he found it, Meng Li was surprised, and he decided to dedicate a few minutes to scan his mind whether there was anything else he had missed. And his decision was a smart one, since he had found something - Spiritual Sense. He obtained it when he broke through to the Qi Foundation stage. It was a special force which came from the soul. It allowed him to sense everything in a certain diameter - right now, with his Qi Foundation strength, it was only 10 km. Well, he was saying only, but it was still a gigantic distance. However, with the increase in speed of flying he gained after the breakthrough, he could cross that distance in less than a minute. Fortunately, after using the Spiritual Sense to scan the area a few times, he noticed that the radius increased to about 11 km. It seemed that he didn't reach the maximum potential of his Spiritual Sense and could still train it.

However, after playing for a few minutes with his spiritual sense, Meng Li decided to return to the topic at hand.

<System, how strong is the strongest beast in the world?>

[The strongest beast in the world right now is a Three-Eyed Thunder Crow, and it's strength is equivalent to a 5th level Qi Sea Cultivator.]

'That's quite strong... A 5th layer Qi Sea Cultivator can easily decimate mortals with a wave of his hand, and they can't really run away...' The fact that the beasts got so strong was a headache for Meng Li, since the humans he summoned couldn't cultivate, they wouldn't have a chance when confronted with such a beast.

<System, is there any way to prevent beasts from entering a certain area?>

[Yes there are. Here you go.] As the system replied, Meng Li saw that the screen in his mind changed to the summoning tab and many items were on display. There were formations, special pills, special powders which repelled beasts, and Meng Li even noticed a puppet whose only goal was to protect a certain area from unwanted visitors, beasts included.

After browsing the shop for a while, Meng Li decided on a formation. Or rather, few formations. The formation he chose was a massive one, which covered a circle with a radius of 10 km. The system customized an array for him, which had a few functions - first, it was placed underground, but the effect of the array extended above ground. The array created a shield, which prevented any beings not recognized by the array from entering. The array also had an attack function, but it was slow, and could only target a single creature. The array also emitted an aura, which meant that only weaker beasts would exist near the array's border, and the further you got, the stronger the beasts got, until the array's effect was gone. The array also attracted qi from the surrounding land - mainly to power itself, but some of the attracted qi lingered in the array, which took on a dome-like shape, and made it into an excellent cultivation ground.

Meng Li wanted to place a few of the arrays into a few places which looked nice, and would then summon people to stay in the arrays. He would then stay in the control room to train and cultivate while he waited for time to pass.

<Okay, system, summon the configured arrays in the places I chose.> Meng Li commanded the system. He chose the places to summon the arrays with his new Spiritual Sense, using it to mark parts of the globe in his consciousness. It was a new function of the Spiritual Sense - he could attach it to any object, and he would be able to know what was happening to the object and a few meters around it.

Once again returning to the topic at hand, Meng Li confirmed the placement of the huge arrays. He chose a few locations - five in total. One on the west continent, two on the east continent, one in the island paradise and the last one on the biggest island in the... Other archipelago.

'Deep Sea Archipelago!' Meng Li had an idea on what to call the rest of the islands not belonging to the island paradise.

You might notice that Meng Li didn't place any arrays on the small island in the south-west - that was because he wanted that island to become sort of his own island - a personal playground of sorts. When the world developed enough to the point where sects started appearing, he might even make a sect there.

After he placed the arrays, Meng Li decided to teleport to their locations to see if everything was working correctly. He also had the system configure the arrays to let every human in, and only let animals with no cultivation enter. The weakest beasts were in the forest just outside the array. This time, as he examined the locations, Meng Li also supressed his aura. He was not disappointed - when walking outside the barrier, he was attacked at least 10 times by beasts which were equivalent to 1st or 2nd level Qi Gathering Cultivators. Practically every time, he was ambushed and didn't notice until the attack hit him. Fortunately, his body was strong enough to withstand an attack from a Qi Sea Cultivator, not to mention measly Qi Gathering beasts. Even his clothes weren't damaged at all - he wasn't quite sure whether his clothes were of high quality or the beasts were just... Too weak. In the end, he decided it had to be both.

When he was happy with the locations, he once again visited them all to prepare a flat piece of terrain in each of them. The people he summoned would appear there, and he wanted the tribes to be able to find each other. He wanted to summon more than simply two people to avoid excessive inbreeding - that was never good for a population.

After he finished doing all of that, he returned to the control room. It was the time to summon his first people! Or, at least, the puppet ancestors. He still wasn't sure whether he could fully classify them as humans.
