Texas has reappeared, but Anna…… isn’t following him?”

“Texas’ evening gown didn’t max-out her favorability meter?”

“As I’ve said before, my wife isn’t a woman who cares about vanity.”

Excuse me, sir, I’m not your wife.

Watching Texas’ slightly dejected figure as he walked away, Anna suddenly realized this was the aforementioned favorability game mechanic!1

Just a moment ago, there was that game dialog! One that only Texas and I could see. Regretfully for Texas, the evening dress did not move me emotionally at all. Furthermore, despite my attempts at using tactful language to return the dress to him, he refused to accept this.

Giving a girl a gift, and not receiving the anticipated response, moreover being too embarrassed to receive it back… I could understand Texas’ train of thought, but I truly could not use the [Phoenix Evening Dress]…… sigh, let’s just keep it nice and safe in my Storage Space.

Giving gifts was probably the most common method of raising favorability in the online gaming world. It just turns out that the very first time receiving a personal gift in my life had to be a low-cut evening dress after having been transformed into a girl. It’s a unique experience. So unique it was probably only I would ever have the pleasure of experiencing it.

“So many people……”

The bustling crowd outside the fence was giving me a headache.

Given my current rate of entertaining guests, I fear that even if I didn’t sleep for an entire day, I would be unable to handle this continuous stream of players.

The laws of the Mikkel Kingdom have an established night curfew from 9.30pm at night until 5.30am the next day. Surely I would not have to continuously entertain guests other than a break for curfew?! I have better things to do with my time!

“Oh, Texas, I’ve told you before. Your square-shaped face is completely incapable of charming women.”

“……”

Within the crowd was a man who was dressed in an array of delicate silks and was blessed with a charmingly handsome face. His actual appearance in real life was likely outstanding, and this was reflected in his beautiful player character.

The handsome man entered the courtyard. With no trace of tact, he brushed past Texas provocatively on his way towards me.

“Enrique? One of the prominent members of the Venetian Merchant, he’s also here?”

“To appear here to vie for Anna’s affection, surely not…… was that rumor true?”

“What rumor?”

“You haven’t heard? A few months ago there was a lot of hubbub about the invasion of Midgard.  Rumor has it they were mercenaries sent by the Venetian Merchants. They hunted and killed the sacred beast of the elves.”

Enrique was one of the big-shots of the Venetian Merchants. He had a position equivalent to that of second-in-command. I couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh –– to think that Mikkel Kingdom’s number one merchant guild was also here to court me.

The events in the rumors the players were talking about happened a few months ago. The land of the elves, Midgard, experienced a bandit invasion. The target of this invasion was the holy beast of the elven races: the Unicorn. According to legend, only a pure and honest girl would have the opportunity to meet this singly-horned beast. Within the game’s setting, the unicorn was the most sacred of spirit beasts to the elven races. The elves extremely valued the safety of them because they were few in number and had almost no self-defense. This caution was justified as there were a substantial number of players who coveted the unicorn.

The rumor was that this attack on Midgard was backed by the Venetian Merchants. However, no direct evidence of this arose and the matter was left unsettled.

The Venetian Merchants had a monopoly over the Mikkel Kingdom’s maritime trade. The governor for the Venetian Merchants had much deeper pockets than even the king — they could claim to be a kingdom within a kingdom.

I rustled through my memories to find the relevant knowledge in preparation for Enrique’s arrival.

I couldn’t deny that Enrique is a dashingly handsome man.

I was surprised at myself for having that thought. I suspected this was the effect of [Charm]. Enrique’s aristocratic outfit had low defense but it’s [Charm] value was far more than a knight’s armor and was extremely attractive to the opposite sex.

‘Such an annoying guy, messing around with people’s hormones,’ I mumbled silently to myself.

“Good day, Lord Enrique. May you be blessed by the Goddess of Fortune.”

“To be blessed by Miss Anastasia’s beautiful face, the Goddess is indeed smiling down upon me.”

Enrique replied in a warm tone and with a kind smile. He leaned forward slightly and extended an open palm. I realized this was Enrique’s style of etiquette.

Hand-kissing…… I’m sorry, but I refuse to participate in that.

Seeing that I had no intention of extending my hand, Enrique did not seem to express the slightest amount of dissatisfaction and calmly stood up straight once more.

“I wonder if Miss Anastasia is familiar with the latest fashion in the Mikkel kingdom?”

“I’m afraid I know only a little about that.”

Choosing an appropriate outfit for a master is part of a servant’s job, but Enrique’s question probably had a deeper meaning than that.

Most typical virtual games had items and equipment that were prepared by the developers in advance; whether they were hidden items or hidden missions, everything had already been pre-planned and existed simply not visible. «The Eternal Pacificus», on the other hand, allowed both players and NPCs to craft truly novel in-game objects, be it with regards to equipment, items or magical skills, most things could be researched, discovered and invented organically.

In principle, items that were far ahead of their time were not permitted to exist, but like all rules there were always exceptions.

An example of an exception would be for the pursuit of fashion and beauty.2

Enrique sighed and said: “If that’s really the case, that’s really regretful. For a beautiful flower like Miss Anastasia to be unable to keep up with the latest fashion trends……”

Hey, I have no particular interest in fashion, don’t you know. This includes window shopping! Even if I went into town I wouldn’t be interested in buying fresh new clothes and handbags… although to be fair handbags didn’t really exist on Lemuria.

“Miss Anastasia’s beauty would not lose to any other lady, but it’s just lacking in some decorative elements……”

Enrique glamorously produced his gift with a smile. It exuded a striking radiance different from the [Phoenix Evening Dress]. If the dress was a symbol of a passionately burning life, Enrique’s gift would represent gentle and tender devotion –– It was a pair of glass slippers that seemed to evoke the sense of those from the fairy tale of Cinderella, sparkling and crystal clear.

“This is a pair of glass slippers made from unicorn horns, the perfect match for Miss Anastasia!”

“…… Oh. I see.”

Don’t look at me like that! Was I meant to act a bit more excited about this?
