Chapter 2: Connection (part 1)
The first thing he did after waking up was checking the phone. Because he still wasn’t sure if what happened last night was a dream or reality.
“It’s reality.”
22 years of life. It can be considered a long and a short life. What Kim Hyun-sung understood in this life was that the account balance was the most transparent thing in the world. Infinite zeros were imprinted on the bank book. Until last night it had a minus symbol in the front, but now it had a 3 instead of the minus.
‘Thirty million won.’ (30.000 dollars)
Kim Hyun-sung’s shoulders trembled. The student loan was ten million won (10.000 dollars). Even that was liquidated. Four million won was transferred to his back account as if it was nothing. Even after he confirmed it was real, it was awfully unrealistic. Kim Hyun-sung shed a snob and covered his face with his hands.
‘… Well. For the Hero Company that made Valhalla, three million won might be nothing.’
Valhalla was the current most popular virtual reality game in the whole world. If you consider one month of Valhalla’s account fee, it can reach 1 million won (1.000 dollars). Since there was a news recently which said that Valhalla’s users number broke through a hundred million, just the account fee Hero Company gather each month is an astronomical amount.
“It’s gum price. Gum price.”
Kim Hyun-sung stood up while mumbling.
The condition was too great.
Those were his thoughts while glaring the bathroom mirror. Icon and fans. Even without those talks, the condition Alice proposed was too good. The debt from school fees was gone, and he received a living expense. After paying off the student loan, he planned to work a part time job to get some money to the future school fee, so he got a leave from university. But since that money appeared, it wasn’t necessary for him to work.
Even in 2040 the university registration fee was still expensive.
‘…It’s not bad.’
It was rather good. He splashed cold water on his face. He wouldn’t need to work part time. He would just keep the leave as it was. He had overflowing living expenses. They said they would pay the virtual reality capsule which costs over one million won, he could just pay the account fee and the living expenses with the three million in the bank.
‘It has been 5 years anyway.’
It was a proposition with no reason to refuse. That’s why he accepted it. Last night, Alice returned satisfied while Kim Hyun-sung drank the canned beer together with all his tension, worries and uneasiness and went to bed.
And today.
‘Let’s start from researching.’
5 years since he deleted his character from Fantasia. He intentionally didn’t even glance to virtual reality games. Because he didn’t want to keep experiencing bitter feelings. That’s why he didn’t know almost anything about Valhalla.
So, research was the most important. Since without a capsule he couldn’t start playing, he would research all the materials when time was abundant. After brushing the teeth and washing his face, Kim Hyun-sung sat in front of the computer.
‘Valhalla’ was above ‘Fantasia’ in every aspect. From the system till the AI of the NPC. It was like that from any aspect.
‘It doesn’t have a pattern.’
In ‘Fantasia’, the monsters had a pattern. The monster Kim Hyun-sung had a grasp of all its patterns was Dum Night Kasablo (Doom Knight Kasablo?). It was to the point of being able to perfectly remember all the patterns even now.
The first meeting with Kasablo. Kasablo uses one of the three patterns randomly. Dash and cut. Dash and stab from above. Backstep and long distance attack.
Each pattern accompanied a different debuff. Cut turned the defense into a minus number. Stab from above caused a continuous HP damage. Long distance attack paralyzed the player for a short period of time.
‘If one uses a hiding skill, they can avoid the first pattern.’
After that, it changes to the next pattern. Kim Hyun-sung grasped all 120 of Kasablo’s attack patterns. Kasablo uses those 120 patterns alternating depending on the situation. Since some of the patterns act as a connector to others, if one knew just the first patterns, they would naturally know the next ones. It wasn’t only applied to Kasablo, all the bosses from Fantasia were programed that way.
However, the monsters in Valhalla were different. There is no settled pattern. It means that the AI implemented on the NPC and monsters in Valhalla was really similar to humans.
‘That is something I would only know after playing it myself.’

Freaking sh*t. It’s f*cking hard. Now I know why they dropped it. It took me 4 hours to translate this 1/5(?) of the chapter.
Also, I couldn’t even MTL this ‘cause the raw doesn’t let me select the text!
Besides, I know nothing about games! There is quite a number of game terms that Idk.
But, well, I’m gonna try finishing these 8 chapters. (just don’t expect speed from me).

Won: korean currency. You can convert 1.000 won = 1 dollar. (just cut those zeros)
Infinite zeros: it means it is a big number (like -1.000.000, one million won of his debt).
Gum price: the price of a gum. Korean term to refer a lot of money (to peasants) but it means nothing to the owner (because they are rich).
1 million won (1.000 dollars): idk. It seems too little to gain per month. Maybe I got it wrong.
Bitter feelings: 미련. idk how to translate this. It’s like dragging feelings.
Dum Night Kasablo (Doom Knight Kasablo?): 둠 나이트 카사블로. the name of the boss monster.
Cut: 휭 베기. MTL told me it was “transverse” but I left as cut.
Stab from above: 내려찍기. [내려] means descending/going down. [찍기] means chopping. So since it’s the boss’ attack, I interpreted as an attack that comes from above the player.
Long distance attack: 원거리 참격. i.d.k. I researched but I only found that is a long distance attack (well one type of?).
