Chapter 32 This is My Sister
Jiang Han said goodbye to Zhou Wei and then left the hospital. It was still early and he still had time to grab a meal at a restaurant. Earlier during his examinations, he had carefully listed down all the food that the patients ate before the incident. He only needed to purchase one of each and then slowly research and analyse it.
With that line of thought, Jiang Han came to the nearest restaurant which was where the man with the afro last ate at. When Jiang Han saw this Chinese restaurant, he felt a little surreal. Just the restaurant’s dining area alone was much bigger than most other places.
The dining area was decorated in the style of Tang Dynasty’s courtyards, of course, it was the luxurious courtyard version. The huge signboard above the main door was carved out of solid wood with the restaurant’s name penned in gold, there were even inscriptions on the sides.
Even though Jiang Han did not recognise the name on the inscription, but to be able pen their name on the signboard in full display indicated that it likely belonged to some famous calligrapher. Just based on its extravagant appearance, if it wasn’t because of the important matter at hand, Jiang Han would have never entered this sort of restaurant.
If Jiang Han thought that he could accomplished his task just by waking in then he would be underestimating what it meant to be ‘upscale’. Jiang Han walked in through the door onto an exquisite and soft carpet only to be greeted by the restaurant’s hostess.
Jiang Han was born into poverty and had never experienced such situations before. Both his state of mind and physical actions were completely unnatural. He gawked at his surroundings, completely oblivious to the hostess who had asked him what sort of table he preferred.
The hostess was able to pick up on some clues as she looked at Jiang Han. But as someone from the service industry, she had to prioritise the service above all and thus was completely professional as she patiently and quietly waited for Jiang Han.
Jiang Han only regained his composure after a short while, but since it was his first time in this sort of place, he didn’t know what to do next. Should he just walk over and grab a seat or was there some other procedure he had to go through. Because he did not know what to do, he just stood on the same spot without moving.
The hostess could tell that Jiang Han had regained his composure and knew he hadn’t heard what she said earlier, “Sir, let me take you to your table, if you are unhappy with it then we can switch later, is that alright?”
“Oh, sure, okay.” Jiang Han was trying to figure out what to do when he heard her voice. Internally, he was rather grateful for this person’s patience and kind understanding.
The hostess then brought Jiang Han to a table and asked him if he was alright with it. Jiang Han naturally had no qualms about it and sat down.
This restaurant was different from your everyday run-of-the-mill restaurants. Other than a much bigger footprint, most of the tables here were of the same size. Every table here was as big as a car and there was quite the distance between tables as if they weren’t worried about maximising space efficiency.
Right in the middle of this space was a super huge table. Jiang Han’s rough estimate was that it could accommodate at least 50 people. He has never seen such a huge round table before and was astounded.
While Jiang Han was taking in the sights, someone had already brought him the menu. As he looked at the menu on the table, Jiang Han knew that he had made a mistake. He hadn’t thought this through before entering the premise. The menu was exquisite as it was made from a piece of satin framed with wood, the dishes were written in calligraphy with a picture of the item next to it.
“We guarantee that our dishes would look exactly as depicted in the pictures. Sir may order to his heart’s desires.” The waiter next to him said with a smile.
Jiang Han did not hesitated because of this, instead it was because the price of the dishes were not indicated on the menu. He did not know that this restaurant’s unique feature was that it was focused on the customer’s preference without being affected by price. Furthermore, those who dine here were usually not those that would be mindful of the cost.
Obviously Jiang Han was not one of those people, he did not come here for his own pleasure.
Just as Jiang Han was fretting over what to do, suddenly there was a man that ran towards him while waving at him. The man had a big smile on his face and the fat on his tummy was trembling in a rather shocking manner that one would think it would just fall off.
This person came to Jiang Han’s table and sat down uninvited. Jiang Han was puzzled by this, he did not know this person, could he mistook him for someone else?
Without waiting for Jiang Han to open his mouth, this person grinned and said in a low voice, “I’ve got no time to explain, just play it by ear.”
The moment this fatty said that, a rather tall woman with an amazing figure walked towards them angrily. The fatty had his back towards the woman, but Jiang Han could clearly see that the fatty in front of him was so afraid that he was trembling.
“Liangmu, what tricks are you up to now?” The woman walked right next to the fatty, and without any explanation grabbed onto his ear and said out loud.
“Big sis, I really am unable to attend this time. I’ve long made an appointment with a friend but you wouldn’t believe me. Look for yourself, he’s been waiting here for a while now.” The fatty called Liangmu looked at Jiang Han as he said that, sending him a cry for help with his eyes.
“That’s weird, how could I not know that you had friends.” The woman turned to look and finally notice Jiang Han on the other end of the table.
Based on the scene that just played out in front of him in addition to what the fatty said to him earlier, Jiang Han had a pretty good grasp on the current situation. He originally had no intention to meddle but he saw how miserable the fatty looked and eventually decided to join in on the fun.
“This is the person I’ve always told you about, my big sister.” The fatty was afraid Jiang Han didn’t know how to step in and thus quickly initiated the conversation.
Jiang Han heard this and replied, “So this is the sister you’ve always talked about. Such a beauty, no wonder you always tell me that she’s the best.”
It wouldn’t cost him anything to get involve with this matter and even though Jiang Han did not know what the fatty’s relationship with his sister was like, he couldn’t go wrong as long as he said something nice.
Surely enough, as soon as Jiang Han said that, the fatty was surprised with his eyes wide opened. If it wasn’t because the woman was equally as surprise then she would have caught the fatty’s expression and this little show of theirs would be over.
“Right, that’s right. This is her.” At this point in time, the fatty wanted to give Jiang Han a nice big slap but couldn’t because he had to deal with the situation first.
“How do you do, I’m your little brother’s good friend, Jiang Han.” Jiang Han stood up and pulled out a chair for her.
Right then, the woman had already recovered her composure and let go of the fatty’s ear. She sat down and looked at Jiang Han flabbergasted, “So you’re actually my little brother’s friend. Did he really say good things about me?”
Jiang Han expression became a little stiff, he hadn’t thought that she would have such a reaction. Was it so surprising for her little brother to have a friend, but the fatty before him did indeed look a little odd and atypical.
Jiang Han had already gotten himself involve and was resolved to see this good deed to its end, so he didn’t mind fabricating another line, “That’s right, I’m a good friend of his. We hadn’t known each other for long, but even so, he has said nothing but good things about you.”
“At least he’s still got a conscience. Since you guys have met up, I shan’t trouble him any longer. My parents are still waiting for me so I’ll make a move first. Feel free to visit us at home when you’ve got the time.” The beautiful woman said and then stood up, patted the fatty’s shoulders and then left the restaurant.
