Zan Fu ran like a mouse being chased by a cat. The worm finished off crushing the building with the gigantic it used for a mouth. "Why are these things always happening to me!"

Drodon flew beside him and with a panicked voice exclaimed, "We can only blame your luck for this!" Whenever Zan Fu looked back once in a while. Once he couldn't see the worm anymore, Zan Fu finally stopped for some rest.

He plopped himself down onto the dry earth , and sat beside a small cottage-like house. "Drodon, you never told me that it would be the size of several buildings!"

"Well you never asked."

"Why the hell would I ask a question like that!" Zan Fu was being exhausted by Drodon's personality. Sometimes he seemed like a wise teacher, while at other times he was like a clueless child.

Zan Fu really didn't really mind this, but he did wish that Drodon would be a little more dependable sometimes. He snuck a few peeks in the direction of the titanic bug.

Everything seemed peaceful since the atrocious behemoth was nowhere in sight. He slowly stood up and tried to peer far into the distance to figure out where the, literal, maggot was.

He didn't see anything at all, only rubble and ruins. "I think the monster returned to the earth." Drodon agreed and stated that as long as they don't spill anymore blood, everything should be fine.

Zan Fu nodded silently, but he felt as if something was wrong. "Why is such a creature around here?"

Drodon, "These monster are very rare and are being hunted down to extinction due to the dangerous city leveling power that comes with their size. Because they are actually kind of smart, they hide in wastelands or abandoned areas to avoid contact with cultivators."

Looking at their surroundings Zan Fu nodded in understanding, "Yep, this is the definition of a barren wasteland." The area had dry, coarse air; the earth was barren with little to no plant life around; and the the buildings were more like ruins with barely a shadow of what they used to be.

The more he looked, the he realized something strange. Why was this place abandoned. It was like this when he was born and he remembered his parents only ever calling it a barren wasteland. The more he thought about it, he realized that there was even an abundance of "heaven's force" here but no one claims this land for their own.

"How strange..." though it picked at his curiosity, it wasn't really that important so he pushed it to the back of his mind. What he was more worried about was the worm, "So how strong is it?" He said obviously insinuating the beast.

"It is quite small in comparison to the rest of its species. The Gaian Worms can usually grow large enough to devour entire cities. Those are actually in the realm of Divinities, so the one we are dealing with might actually only be in the fourth realm. It is a good opponent for you since you are both in the same level. The only problem is that due to its size it will be difficult to kill."

Zan Fu agreed with his analysis, but he Drodon didn't have a plan on how to beat it. "Maybe we go from the inside out?"

Zan Fu immediately denied this idea due to how gross it was, "There has to be other ways." Luckily Zan Fu believed that they had plenty of time to think of one, until the ground beneath them began to tremble once again.

Zan Fu looked at the ground and began to back away slowly. As the floor beneath him cracked open and a large slithery surface appeared, he already knew that things weren't going to go well.

The gold line burst all of a sudden and he was thrown high into the air. While in the sky, Zan Fu looked down only to see a fleshy head move towards him. He spun around midair to that his body was facing the ground and braced for impact.

He quickly landed on top of two hundred meter beast and began to run across its back. As it slowly rose up into the sky and fell back to the ground, Zan Fu balanced himself on top of it to avoid falling.

The worm didn't return underground and instead plopped onto the solid earth beneath it. The brown maggot began to coil its body around, like a snake, until its head was facing him standing on top of its back.

A loud roar escaped the cavern it called a mouth as it lunges toward him. Zan Fu quickly down from it body and ran under where the worm's head floated. With the threat of being eaten literally looming over him, Zan Fu raised up his arm and a bright flash cake down and covered him before disappearing to reveal in its place was a giant claw.

"Strike The Earth!" Zan Fu pointed the weapon towards the ground and stabbed into it creating a huge shockwave. Spikes of rock started to pierce up from the ground and several of them stabbed into the creature's tail. But most importantly, the shock propelled Zan Fu up and away from the mighty beast.

Once he landed onto the ground, Zan Fu turned back to see how the Gaian Worm was doing. The worm thrashed about crazily in pain and the rock spears that formed were shattered immediately.

"Crap, that did almost no damage. Luckily it seems pretty slow." When Zan Fu said this out loud, Drodon appeared far off into the distance and Zan Finheard his voice being transmitted into his ear in a panic.

"Don't underestimate it, despite its size the Gaian Worms are incredibly fast!"

As if on cue, the worm turned its body towards him and slithered side to side like a snake at shocking speeds. Zan Fu waved the claw into the air and made a horizontal swiping motion, have a wave of energy go from his body, into the blade, and out as a slashing attack.

The attack struck the worm square on its head with a huge explosion. Without pause, he swiped at the monster several more times before his energy was completely depleted. One explosion after another rang out and each and every attack struck his opponent.

The claw disappeared from Zan fu's hand. Usually Zan Fu's attack wouldn't be that powerful and he could to a few modern of them, but the claw being in his hand drained him of energy constantly. Every attack used up twice as much "heaven's force" than it usually would but in return the weapon made each attack five times stronger. So he profited in the end.

Zan Fu fell back onto the ground breathing heavily, "Did I get him?"

Drodon flew up beside him and answered calmly, "I can't imagine any monster in the same realm being able to withstand so many attacks."

As the smoke cleared and the answer to the question became apparent, Zan Fu's face fdrained of all color.

There was no corpse.

"It escaped into the ground!" Just as this conclusion popped into Zan Fu's head, another rumbling came from the ground. Zan Fu once more looked at his feet to find the ground breaking apart.

A wide circular wall rose from the ground and surrounded both him and Drodon.

"AWWW GROSS!" The Gaian Worm dug into the ground and traveled directly beneath them in order to pop back out and swallow him whole.

As its mouth closed with Zan Fu and Drodon inside, darkness began to creep into their vision.
