Shi Li was making a pair of drums. Not those big and bulky drums you see in march bands, but rather portable drums that could be worn over the neck.

It would be better to call these portable drums, bongos.

Shi Li looked at Moddy and asked, "Could you step aside Moddy? I'm gonna have to cut off a small part of the wood in what I'm doing."

Moddy at first didn't want the wood to be cut. But then again, the wood was extremely long, it was still enough for it to bang its paws on, Moddy thought. So after a short contemplation break, Moddy moved to Shi Li's side, looking at the wood with slightly teary eyes.

'I treated you as my lover-nya. I'm sorry I have to do this.'

Shi Li went closer to the wood and roughly measured the length of wood he needed to cut with his eyes. Unexpected, Shi Li's pupils turned crimson red, activating the eye's interface.

In a matter of seconds, a red line was made on the log of wood as a translucent screen appeared in front of Shi Li.

~~~~~~~~
Wood needed to be cut: 1.3 meters
- Nonpareil Eye Interface
~~~~~~~~

Shi Li looked at the number given by the eye, and was shocked to see that it was eerily similar to the length of bongos in his previous life.

Gripping the blade tightly, Shi Li sliced at where the red line was, cutting a part of the wood with one straight cut.

The log rolled off from the larger log, stopping just a few centimeters in front of Shi Li's legs. Shi Li held the log in place with one hand as he bent down and sat on the ground. He changed his grip on the rock blade and started the carving process with one straight cut on the log's side. The result was a slightly uneven surface, barely passing as a flat surface.

Afterwards, Shi Li continued to carve off the log's corners, creating a small inward curve in the process.

Moddy looked at Shi Li's log carving. Each cut was not precise, but it looked like a greater part of a whole, bringing Moddy into a daze.

Realizing that it was in a daze, Moddy shook its head as it looked at Shi Li and asked, "What are you making-nya? I asked this question multiple times already-nya! Please, tell me-nya!"

Seeing that Moddy wanted to know what it was, Shi Li grinned as he carved off another part of the log. He then opened his mouth and answered, "I'm making small drums."

"Drums?" Moddy tilted its head. It felt like it had the term somewhere but it didn't know where. In the end, it just sighed as it continued to look at the log being transformed. It lived most of its life in the forest after all, so every little bit of unique experience would expand its horizons.

...

Around twenty minutes later, Shi Li dropped the rock blade on the ground as he let out a sigh of relief while wiping off the sweat from his forehead.

"Phew. I'm finally done with the carving portion."

Shi Li looked at his work. The top was quite uneven while the sides were poorly carved, not looking like a curve at all. But something in the wood gave it a feeling that it was beautiful as it was.

'Copying those bongos from the instrument making tutorials I used to watch is hard. I truly admire their work.'

Visualizing the next process, Shi Li gripped the rock blade as if he was going to stab somebody with it. He made a cross on left bongo's center and another on the right one. Bongos come in twos, don't they?

Next, he made a rough circle just a few centimeters near the bongo's edge, acting as a border. He made two circles, for each bongo.

After he was done, he placed the rock blade down and grabbed the sandpaper-like rock, rubbing it where the crosses were made.

Not long after, sounds similar to sawing wood was heard throughout the center of the forest as Shi Li continued to rub the rock on the wood.

Bit by bit, a dip was made where the crosses were, replacing it altogether as wood chips flew all over the air as Shi Li continued to rub the rock.

'The sounds coming from the human's rubbing hurts the ears-nya. When will it stop-nya?'

Moddy used its paws to try and block the sounds from entering its ears. But then it realized that its paws were too short, so Moddy had no choice but to grit its teeth and endure.

...

Zzzzzt...

Zzzzzt...

Zzzzzt...

"Huuh...haah...huuh..." Shi Li's breathing was slightly hastened as he had been sanding the insides of the bongos for over two hours, deep in the night.

The center area was quite clear of trees, so the moonlight was enough for Shi Li to see what he was doing.

From two small dips, the insides of the bongos turned into wide and deep pits. If someone screamed into it, their voice would become twice as loud.

Shi Li retracted his hands from the bongo's insides as wood chips scattered thanks to Shi Li's movement. He then lifted the bongo up and turned it upside down, bringing down a shower of wood chips. He tapped the bongo on its bottom, letting the stray wooden chips fall as well.

He then placed it down again as he turned it rightside up, sanding it a bit more to a smooth finish.

After three minutes, Shi Li placed the sandpaper rock on the ground, and blowed air into the inside of the bongos, letting the wood chips fly all over the place.

Shi Li looked at the result after his sanding and smiled.

The outside may look rough, but what counted in sound amplification was the inside. The smoother the inside, the higher the amplification.

"Now that's done, time to put on the wolf skin on the top."

Shi Li stood up and brought the wolf corpses closer to the hollow bongos. He then grabbed the rock blade and carefully cut off the wolf's fur from the carcass.

Being a beast in the second stage of Skin Tempering, their skins are more firm, allowing a person to do harder hits when made into a drum.

After Shi Li removed the fur from the wolves, he then removed the individual hairs and washed them in a nearby river, only leaving wet gray pelts.

He then hanged the pelts on a nearby branch as he beated on it with a stick he picked up, making it dry faster.

After another half hour, the pelts became dry, suitable for the drum's head [1]. He placed the pelts over the hollow portion of the bongos and placed his hand over it, rubbing all over to make sure the pelts were neat.

He then grabbed those branches that were sharp on one end and snapped it into two, turning into small wooden nails.

Afterwards, he grabbed a somewhat heavy rock from nearby and used it as a makeshift hammer to hammer in the wooden nails, keeping the pelt in place.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

As Shi Li continued to hammer in the nails, he stretched the pelt out, allowing it to retain its springiness once it was beaten.

Moddy looked at the bongos and couldn't help but admire Shi Li's work. Even if it looked crude, the bongos were made for Moddy, so it felt warmed.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

"And that's...the final nail!"

Bang!

All of a sudden, a translucent screen pops up in front of Shi Li, bringing him into a daze as he read the information written.

User has created their first equipment!

Reward: [Basic Equipment Creation]

Reward: [Basic Equipment Mastery]

Thanks to the Ruin Forest Wood's special attributes, and the usage of Grade D-2 wolf pelts, with the user's shoddy craftsmanship skills, the equipment created is of E+ grade!

Would you like to name your equipment?

~~~~~~~~
'Eh?' Shi Li was overwhelmed from the influx of information entering his brain. Multiple concepts and theories entered his brain and made him feel like these things were at the palm of his hand.
Taking a deep breath after the influx, he read the last part of the screen, his heart jolted.
'I can...name my equipment?' His eyes glistened, but then it dimmed down as he laughed inwardly.
'Duh. Of course I can, I made the equipment. But seeing that the eye asks me to name the equipment, does it mean something?'
Testing his hypothesis out, he replied with a 'Yes.'
~~~~~~~~

What would you like to name your equipment?

~~~~~~~~
Pondering for a bit, Shi Li looked at Moddy and back at the bongos.
Suddenly, a spark of inspiration enters his mind. He then unconsciously blurted out...
"War Drums of the Fallen."
In a short amount of time, a tyrannical and glorious aura entered the bongos, making it faintly emanate a golden light. After a while, it dissipated but Shi Li knew it was still there.
