Shi Feng and the guards came closer to the beast corpses and counted them by hand.

"I counted 37 here!" A guard shouted.

"I counted uh...45 here!" The other guard shouted.

"I counted..." Shi Feng gulped his saliva before continuing, "...62 here!"

Hearing the last number made the three of them shudder. Even if Shi Li killed all of these beasts in a time span of two weeks, he still killed at least 10 beasts each day...which was coincidentally the estimated amount Shi Xingwan gave to Shi Feng.

"Totalling all of our numbers, it amounts to...144 corpses..." Shi Feng couldn't comprehend as to how a kid like Shi Li could kill that much beasts in a day.

"144 corpses? Can't we keep some to our own so we can make a small profit out of it?" A guard had the idea as he was slightly jealous of Shi Li gaining a lot of gold coins in one night.

Shi Feng shook his head at the idea. "Don't even bother. The young master also killed beasts at the Peak of Bone Tempering..even though he was only at the First Stage of Skin Tempering."

This thought made the guards shudder intensely as they knew for sure, if ever Shi Li found out in the future, with his current potential, they would be minced into pieces in the blink of an eye.

"But seriously though...what the fuck?" A guard truly couldn't believe it. Seeing Shi Li's combat power at the First Stage of Skin Tempering made the guard envious, wanting to know Shi Li's methods of doing so.

The other guard tapped on his shoulder and shook its head as it could sense the guard's greed for Shi Li's techniques. "Remember who's protecting Shi Li."

In an instant, the greedy thought was dispelled, making the guard look at the other guard and say, "Thanks."

Shi Feng released multiple strands of qi into the air and sent them to Shi Xingwan as he transmitted a message.

"Patriarch, your son is truly amazing. The amount of beasts he has killed throughout the last 14 days was over a hundred!"

After a moment of silence, Shi Feng received a reply from Shi Xingwan as the connection between them strengthened with qi.

"Eh? Over a hundred? My son? Seriously? Could you let me see?"

Shi Feng released yet more strands of qi into the air and condensed them in a certain manner to form a qi eye that would allow someone to see from a further distance.

Shi Xingwan looked through the qi eye and saw the pile of beast corpses in front of him, making his eyes widen with shock.

"What...the fuck?"

"I know right?" Shi Feng laughed inwardly as he saw that the patriarch had the same expression as him.

"My son did that? Seriously?"

"Indeed, Patriarch. According to our spies, only Shi Li left for the Forest of Ruin to temper, so it's quite certain that Shi Li killed all these beasts by himself."

"..."

"MY SON REALLY DID THAT?!" Shi Xingwan truly couldn't believe it even though the evidence could be seen through the qi eye.

"Yes, Patriarch. But that's not all. He also killed a beast at the Peak of Bone Tempering."

"..."

"Are you messing with me?" Now Shi Xingwan truly couldn't believe this as Shi Li was only at the peak of the First Stage of Skin Tempering when he started to go out on his tempering journey.

Shi Feng couldn't help but sigh. "Even I didn't believe it at the start. I'll bring the pile of beast corpses to you at least by midnight and you can see for yourself, Patriarch."

...

Shi clan, Shi Li's courtyard.

"Haaaaah..." Shi Li yawned as he sat upright on his bed. He looked at Moddy and smiled before nudging it with a finger.

"Oiiiii. Wake up."

"Nya..." Moddy was enjoying the sensation of Shi Li's soft bed as it rolled to the right...and fell.

"Nyeouch!"

Moddy opened its beady eyes as it tried to rub the spot where it was hit. It looked at Shi Li and yawned. "Good morning-nya."

Shi Li replied back. "Good morning. I'll just go and take a quick bath. Then we'll go to my father's office since I need to get a martial technique."

Moddy nods as it stood up and did some questionable stretching. "Nya! I want a technique as well-nya! Can I get a cultivation technique?"

Shi Li looked back at Moddy as he didn't expect it to ask that question. "Oh? I can ask for one, but where did you learn the term cultivation technique?"

"I don't know to be honest-nya," Moddy scratched its head but gave up as its paws were too short. "I have a feeling that some memories were awakened from my blood [1], allowing me to know this term-nya."

'Awakening memories from a bloodline, it sounds like something that I read from a novel in my previous life. I'll try to find Moddy's bloodline in the future.'

After a few minutes, Shi Li got out of the bath and wore a dark green robe with small drawings of leaves on its borders before he urged Moddy to sit on his left shoulder again. Afterwards, they walked towards Shi Xingwan's office.

...

Shi clan, Shi Xingwan's room.

"Sell all of the beast corpses except those at the Peak of Bone Tempering. I have a good use for those things," Shi Xingwan transmitted to an elder as he sat on his chair with a serious expression on his face.

By the time midnight struck last night, Shi Feng and the two guards were able to deliver all of the beasts Shi Li killed, allowing Shi Xingwan to check their cultivation realms. A few minutes later, he was able to confirm that Shi Li did kill a beast at the Peak of Bone Tempering, which made him see his son in a new light.

"Son, are you really a blessing or a curse?" Shi Xingwan sighed.

Knock knock knock.

"Father, it's me Shi Li." Shi Li knocked on the door as he used to do, waiting for his father's answer.

"Ah. Come in," Shi Xingwan had a feeling that Shi Li was going to request access to the clan library to pick his first technique.

Shi Li sat on a nearby chair before closing the door to the room. "Father, I would like to enter the clan library to get my first martial technique. I would also like to grab another cultivation technique."

Shi Xingwan was expecting the first statement, but was somewhat surprised to hear the second one. "Why do you need another cultivation technique? You do know that cultivating another cultivation technique would be detrimental to your cultivation, right?"

Shi Li nodded. "I do, Father. I need another cultivation technique for my pet over here since I feel like it would be useful to me in the future." He said this as he pointed to Moddy.

Shi Xingwan understood Shi Li's train of thought. "I see, I see. Go ahead. Just ask an elder to open the library for you, okay?"

Shi Li nodded as he left the room. "I will, Father."

...

"Nya...you consider me a pet-nya?" Moddy was quite mad that it was a pet to Shi Li.

Shi Li shook his head multiple times as he rubbed its head. "Not at all! You're a great friend to me, my lifelong partner even! I just need to find a way to make it possible for us to communicate with one another at far places."

Moddy was quite innocent so it took Shi Li's statement literally and smiled. "Nya! You're a great friend to me as well-nya! But yeah, having a way to communicate at a far distance would be nice-nya..."

...

Shi clan, Shi clan library.

The door was opened by an elder, who then smiled at Shi Li and said, "Take your time. No one's gonna rush you anyways. Hope you find the book you need."

Shi Li bowed respectfully before entering the library. "Thanks to Elder for opening the library."

Creaaaaaaak....bang!

The door gradually closed shut on its own, as Shi Li went to a nearby chair and took a seat.

He then placed Moddy on the table in front of the chair as he started to ponder about the technique he was going to pick. Moddy wanted to ask as to why it was placed on the table, but seeing the serious expression on Shi Li's face made it think otherwise, letting Shi Li think freely.

'I asked the Elder on the types of martial techniques available in the clan library and told me that there were a range of weapons available with their own corresponding techniques.'

'Sword, saber, spear, bow, whip, zither, fist, claw, hammer and so on. Before choosing the technique I would cultivate, what weapon should I choose as my main weapon?'

'Swords and sabers look cool, but it's probably the most used weapon in the novels I've read. I want to take on a unique path so I'll choose another one.'

'Spears are all about becoming an extension of the limbs, just like the sword and saber, but it allows me to attack enemies from a longer range, and attacking enemies from a distance isn't my style. Bows are even worse since I would have to take into consideration the wind speed, the air resistance, the distance between me and the opponent, the power I have to use and so on. I might have to cultivate heartforce [2] if I want to become a great archer, so that's off the list as well.'

'Whip is a unique weapon, but it gives me those S&M vibes, so no. Zithers would need me to have an ear for music, which I know I'm bad at so that's out as well.'

'I'm left with the claw, fist and the hammer. There are even more weapons other than these, but those techniques for the other weapons are extremely low level for sure.'

'The claw would allow me to cleave through my enemies with a slash of my hands, always giving me a sensation of my surroundings in case of counterattacks. The fist is always used in boxing, so it's not a surprise if it's used here as well. The fist would need the strength for it to have the power, which I have. But the fist would be easily countered by the sword or other weapons if it isn't fast enough, so that's out as well.'

'I guess all that's left is the hammer.'

'Well the hammer is like the sword, saber, and spear, acting as an extension of the limb. It also has the attributes of the fist and claw, allowing me to sense every movement of the opponent thanks to the hammer having a wide head. It also needs a lot of power to wield, which I have. Plus a hammer is basically unavoidable if the head is big enough and it's moving fast enough.'

After thinking about it for a bit, Shi Li stood up and yelled with firm resolution...

"I'm gonna choose the hammer!"
