Chapter 19—Elders and Youth

In the prison.

“Paying respects to her Highness the Princess!” All the servants kneeled down when Mo Qingli arrived.

Mo Qingli waved her hand. “Rise!”

“Where are those two?” Mo Qingli asked. She looked around the prison, her eyebrows furrowing as she took in the bottomless darkness of the building. Who would have thought that the Sixth Princess’s residence would have such a dark, dismal place.

The head servant stepped forward. “Princess, they’re locked in one of the inner cells. This servant will lead you to them.”

Mo Qingli nodded her head, following the servant in front of her. As she walked, she observed her surroundings. The original Mo Qingli had no recollection of this place.

The respect given by the servants made Mo Qingli a little astonished. According to her memories, the original Mo Qingli was looked down on by everyone, even her own maids. Although she had changed and reordered things around since her arrival in this new world, the level of respect she saw now was rare.

After a short period of time, they had arrived at the cell housing the two women. Mo Qingli glanced at the cell. The women were bound with chains to the wall, restraining their hands and feet. Their mouths were gagged with dirty rags, preventing them from committing suicide.

The servant opened the door to the cell. Mo Qingli turned to her and said, “Why don’t you head back down.”

The servant bowed and paid respects, then left. Mo Qingli listened to the sound of her footsteps retreating, but didn’t turn to look at the two women in front of her until she could no longer sense any human odor.

Just as she removed the cloth from the women’s mouths, the green-robed woman spat on Mo Qingli’s face. “Who are you? Release me right now! Or else…”

“Or else what?” Mo Qingli took out a handkerchief and wiped her face delicately, then threw the handkerchief onto the ground. She smiled coldly. “Or else, will you send people to kill me?”

The green-robed woman and the blue-robed woman exchanged momentary glances. The green-robed woman looked away, avoiding Mo Qingli’s gaze. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The blue-robed woman added, “We’re just normal civilians! Why did you capture us? Hurry up and release us!”

“Ordinary civilians?” Mo Qingli said, and smiled. “So ordinary civilians will go out and spread the story of the Sixth Princess wearing a green hat?”

The two people stared blankly, at a loss for words. “We don’t know what you’re talking about!”

Mo Qingli stepped forward, then viciously grabbed the two women’s chins. Coldly, she said, “Speak! Who told you to spread this rumor?”

“We didn’t!” The two women gritted their faces in pain as Mo Qingli’s grip became tighter and tighter, until the sound of bone cracking could be heard.

Mo Qingli raised her eyebrows. Releasing her hands, her mouth curled up into a fake smile. “Then how would you know that Feng Qingjue killed Xiaoyao Yunbo? Or know the story of how Feng Qingjue made me wear a green hat?”

The two people could no longer endure the pain. With horror, they gaped at Mo Qingli. “You… you’re the Sixth Princess?”

The green-robed woman grunted in pain. “Sixth Princess, this commoner only heard about this news from other people! Please, Sixth Princess, be magnanimous!”

“Magnanimous?” Mo Qingli said, smiling. She approached the green-robed woman. “But I heard it myself. I heard with my own ears that you spread these rumors!”

“I…”

The blue-robed woman stared, shocked, at Mo Qingli. “You were that young lady from the restaurant!”

“Your eyesight is good,” Mo Qingli said. She turned her attention to the blue-robed woman, an admiring expression on her face.

The two people felt regret wash over them. During that time in the restaurant, they had indeed noticed Mo Qingli. She carried with her the faint impression of someone from the royal family, and so they had debated whether or not to continue their farce. However, when noticing the servant girl sitting next to her, they had released a sigh of relief—people from the royal family were bound to etiquette, and would never eat a meal at the same table as a servant.

However, they could have never imagined that the person they encountered was the unique “outsider”, Mo Qingli.

“Why don’t you speak. If you tell me right now, I’ll even spare your life.” Mo Qingli wiped her hands, then leaned against a wooden pillar in the cell.

The two once again exchanged glances. The blue-robed woman’s face was covered with clear hesitation.

The green-robed woman bit her lip, then said, “Sixth Princess, us commoners really don’t know anything. This commoner furthermore has elders and youth in my family to take care of—Sixth Princess, please forgive us!”

The blue-robed woman, hearing these words, suddenly seemed to realize something. Right, she still had parents, still had concubines and children! She could never let these people get into danger. The hesitation on her face became resolve.

Mo Qingli watched them, wrinkling her forehead. From what the green-robed woman said, she could deduce that these women’s families were in some kind of danger.

“Don’t worry. If you tell me the truth, I’ll send people to protect your families,” Mo Qingli said, after a moment of silence.

The green-robed woman repeated, “We really don’t know! Please, Princess, forgive us! We’re just ordinary commoners!”

Mo Qingli’s patience was nearly exhausted. She wrung the green-robed woman’s neck, snarling, “This Princess will only ask you one more time. Tell me. Who told you to spread those rumors?”

“I… I don’t… know.” The green-robed woman could hardly breathe, but still choked out the same answer as before.

Mo Qingli’s eyes flashed with a golden light. Thinking about how Feng Chenling had treated her, thinking of Mo Qingqin’s reckless murders of innocents, she could no longer suppress a mournful howl at the Heavens. Afterwards, two sharp teeth emerged from her mouth, which she stabbed deep into the green-robed woman’s neck.

“Ah—!” The blue-robed woman screamed, terrified. “Help me, help me! There’s a demon, there’s a demon, help!”

The blue-robed woman crazily scrambled to escape. However, with her hands and legs restrained by chains, she could only attempt to struggle.

Mo Qingli closed her eyes, allowing herself to absorb the essence of fresh blood—although this woman wasn’t exactly pure, her flavor was passable.

Excess blood leaked through the corners of her mouth. The blue-robed woman could only see a man-eating demon in front of her.

She didn’t know how long she screamed, terrified, in the jail. She continued to struggle, her limbs thrashing against the chains, but to no avail.

Mo Qingli forcefully sucked more and more blood. The green-robed woman’s body began to shrivel up as it was sucked dry. Slowly, all the blood in the body was sucked out. However, Mo Qingli continued. The most important thing had yet to be sucked out, that ball of essence which contained the green-robed woman’s memories.

Mo Qingli’s eyes suddenly opened. She sucked more and more, until the essence, too, had entered her mouth.

With the essence gone, the body in front of her finally dried up. A mummified corpse hung from the chains in the jail.

Hearing the screams of the blue-robed woman assaulting her ear, Mo Qingli felt some displeasure. She waved her hand, and using her newly recovered magic, forced the blue-robed woman into unconsciousness.

Mo Qingli sat on the ground, closing her eyes. Slowly, she began to process the essence of the green-robed woman.

“You will spread the information I give you across the entire empire.”

Mo Qingli was looking at the back of a black-robed man in front of her. Without turning back, the man coldly threw a piece of paper at her.

Afterwards, she saw herself opening a piece of paper. It read: Feng Qingjue murdered Xiaoyao Yunbo to instigate war against the two kingdoms. He found a woman to force Mo Qingli to wear a green hat, then using her anger, smoothly escaped the Imperial City.

“Yes,” she heard herself saying.

The black-robed man nodded, but still did not turn to look at her. “Good. After this task has been completed, your family members will remain unharmed.”

Afterwards, Mo Qingli watched as the man slowly disappeared from her vision.

She opened her eyes, but couldn’t help but feel disappointment. She had used a great deal of her magic to enter the green-robed woman’s memories, but found that while someone had been the instigating force behind this rumor, none of the women seemed to know who it was.

Catching a glimpse of the dried-up corpse next to her, Mo Qingli waved her hand and dissipated the body with magic.

Then, looking at the unconscious blue-robed lady, Mo Qingli signed. She was reluctant to kill her—after all, the woman had been forced to do that man’s bidding.

She raised her hand, pressing it against the blue-robed woman’s skull. Slowly, golden light flew from Mo Qingli’s fingers to the blue-robed woman’s head.

After a while, Mo Qingli’s forehead was covered with droplets of sweat. She released her hand, wiping away the sweat, then turned to leave.

“Send someone to release that woman.”

“Yes,” the servants replied. Afterwards, while Mo Qingli watched, they brought out the unconscious blue-robed woman. None of them asked where the other woman was. Instead, they all obeyed her with utmost respect.

Mo Qingli was satisfied with the attitudes of the woman in front of her. She clapped her hands in approval, then left.

After the blue-robed woman woke up, she noticed that she was lying on the corner of a random street.

She slowly stood up, shaking her head, not knowing how she had ended up here. She could clearly remember just eating lunch with her consort… so why was she here?

She staggered into a standing position. However, there was a stinging pain on her hands and ankles that made her wince in pain.

She leaned against the wall, slowly trudging down the road. Suddenly, two black figures appeared in front of her.

“Where’s the other one?” a black-robed figure asked.

The blue-robed woman stared at them in shock, not understanding their meaning. “What do you mean, where’s the other one?”

A person said, “Let’s take care of this one before we worry about finding the other one.”

Before the blue-robed woman could react, a black-robed figure in front of her raised their knife and sliced it through her neck, separating her head and body.

The two men took out a black cloth and gathered up any potential evidence. Afterwards, they leapt away, disappearing from the scene.
