As Taf looked around for Malnor he saw Malgrey's hand pressed on his transmitter while his expression changed.

"What..? repeat that.. damn, ok I'm on my way."

Malgrey paused for a bit as he looked at Taf across the table...

"Something happened, let's go..."

He muttered as he hurriedly got off his seat. Taf didn't ask the reasons for the sudden statement, without a doubt it must be important.

After paying their tabs they both exited the bar while they maneuvered themselves through the bustling streets of Starlight City.

"Malnor had sent one of his members to tail that advisor Kathy. It seems he hasn't heard any news from him in the last half an hour. From the tone of his voice, he seemed concerned. We'll rendezvous with him and Ava at Karr's last known location. "

Malgrey then took the time to inform  Taf of what had occurred.

"They are quite the proactive bunch, aren't they...?"

As Taf spoke, they weaved throughout the crowded streets. With every building they passed, music and loud noises could be heard...

" During such tense times, I wish we could fly. There should be a talk with the City Lord on having this ban lifted while we are on our missions."

Taf lamented as this did seem counterproductive to their task.

" You do have a point, I'll consult with the other two leaders on having this changed temporarily for our squads." Malgrey agreed to Taf's words.

Outside of Kathy's home stood both Ava and Malnor. They looked around diligently for any clues that could help them understand what had occurred.

Soon they saw both the red fiery-haired Malgrey and Taf making their way towards them.

They were puzzled as to why Malgrey had brought Taf to the location, but at the moment they didn't have the heart to think and ponder upon such inconsequential things.

"Are there any clues thus far as to what had occurred?"

Malgrey asked while his eyes combed the scene for anything seemingly out of the norm.

"No, nothing insinuating Karr was even at the scene. It's quite strange as his last report stated he was watching Kathy as she prepared her meals. This was the location where he did his surveillance."

Malnor's words had undertones of worry and apprehension. After all, this was one of the members under his command.

Inside his mind, he berated himself for not having the foresight to send one of the stronger members along with Karr.

There he was searching for anything which indicated Karr was still alive but he knew in his heart, Karr was most likely dead.

"How about the advisor? Maybe she could offer us a clue as to what might have occurred."

Malgrey once more interjected.

"Hmm, why didn't we think of that? It's a good thing we have you here guiding us as you are. Tell you what, why don't you go and ask her yourself?"

Ava sarcastically replied. It could be seen that she was quite annoyed that he even mentioned what he did.

"Now is not the time, Ava. We have searched Kathy's home and she is nowhere to be seen. You can go have a look to see if there is anything we might have missed."

It could be seen Malnor at the moment only had thoughts of finding clues to the disappearance of Karr, as he berated Ava's actions.

Malgrey also realized that he had to ignore this woman or else she would continuously send him in a downward spiral. So, he didn't take her words to heart as he continuously pried for answers.

While the three-spoke, Taf had been doing his own investigations. He walked on to the street as he looked for any signs of a struggle.

Karr's death must have been quick for him not being able to send even the slightest request for help.

"It is likely while he was watching Kathy another party was eyeing him. However, shouldn't there be some form of a struggle, even if he was snuck upon?"

Taf drew up possible scenarios in his head as his gaze moved around on the ground for any sign of a struggle.

He knew the quickest and most effective way to kill a target was to catch them unaware from behind.

Either breaking their necks or slitting their throats. However, this always left signs behind after the  act. For instance, there would be nail scrapings or shoe marks on the ground from the victim grappled for their last breath.

"Well it's a bit strange isn't it, nothing at all.."

Taf rubbed his fingers on the pavement as he stooped down trying to determine or prove his thought,  his eyes lingered on the ground below him.

He then shook his head dejectedly coming to the realization this was not what had actually occurred. While he became resigned to the idea, his eyes noticed something.

Nine feet from where he was crouched, there was a crack that he estimated to be at least 1.5 - 2 inches.

There were thoughts running a mile a minute in his mind that it might be nothing of importance as this was a city that was highly trafficked by demon beasts.

It would then stand to reason there would be a significant amount of wear and tear on the pathways, Nonetheless, Taf decided to have a look..

When he came up to the spot, he saw a small crater - big enough to fit three fingers of a grown man. Without further thought, he placed his fingers inside the crack. He felt some loose gravel inside it - which was expected.

However, just as Taf was about to pull his fingers out, he felt a piece of iron. Curious as to what it might be, he tried using his finger to pull the iron out, however, it would not budge.

Slap...

? Elemental art ( Earth) Transmutation?

Taf then slapped the ground as everything within three inches of the hole turned to dust. and before him, laid a piece of iron two inches thick.

At its tip, there was a fatty looking substance with soft tissue. Similar to beast fat, this he would have known having dismembered hundreds of demon beasts in the past.

"Strange, is this the end of a spear ?"

He thought as he held the iron between his index finger and his thumb assessing it.

He wondered about the origins of the spear as he held the iron between his index finger and his thumb. His hands moved of their own accord trying to find any clues that could be of use to him.

"Taf, I'm going to take a look within the house. Do you want to join?"

Malgrey shouted and this jolted Taf out of the state he currently was in...

"Guess this is a dead-end, might as well see what else there is..." He muttered to himself in a deceptively soft voice.

Taf then stood up and made his way into Kathy's home. As he entered, Taf was greeted by an aroma that delighted the senses.

"Someone certainly seemed to have quite the knack for combining spices. Little miss Kathy is a chef in her own right, I see..."

He quipped as his olfactory senses seemed to have smelled the aroma of heaven's bliss. As he walked into the home he had to admit this woman did have an eye for decorum. Within each partition in the house, there was a semblance of uniformity.

" Nice, I like it. Squad leader, what did the others say when asked about our missing advisor?"

Taf asked Malgrey who too had been looking around the house.

"She is missing, apparently. It is presumed Karr was found spying on her. He was then killed and she absconded with the perpetrators.."

Malgrey then went over both Ava's and Malnor's deductions...

"Is that so..?"

Taf questioned as he looked at Kathy's white floor tiles. There was an odd black mark that marred what was some exquisite tile work, as the pattern flowed from one to the next.

His words did surprise Malgrey who felt there was some underline meaning in his words.

"What are you trying to say, do you think that this is not the case?"

He hypothesized.  He was puzzled at what could this youth deduce that those far more experienced than him couldn't.

"Actually there is no need to look for our friend Kathy..."

Taf mentioned while he once more stooped down to the floor - rubbing his hand on the few black smear marks.

His words did startle Malgrey as he became drawn in by Taf. Who at times would look on the wall a mere 5 feet away?

"Why shouldn't there be a search for her? After all, she is the key to unraveling everything..."

Malgrey questioned as Taf's words didn't seem to make much sense...

"Well, the simple fact is, she is already dead..."
