Chapter 62 Two Golden Beasts

A hail of alloy bullets fell upon Bai Long and Chi Xiao like a monsoon.

“These simple guns are useless against me!” Bai Long squinted and became silvered, a flash of bright light exploding from his skin as he gained speed.

Chi Xiao kept silent and look as he became silvered and sped up against the oncoming bullets.

Bullets tinkled as they clashed against and fell harmlessly to the ground. Small holes and tears began to appear in the fabric of their combat suits, revealing the shiny metal wires inside.

Liu Guang fired and reloaded the rocket launcher at record speed, unleashing seven rocket grenades in under a minute. Bai Long and Chi Xiao zigzagged nimbly and skimmed over the rockets, which tore apart the rocks and dirt behind them.

“Stop them!” the soldier jumped out and went towards Chi Xiao and Bai Long, crying out, “Follow me if you can!”

Five masters with two silver rings and a dozen three-ringed bronzed soldiers followed him.

The burly soldier ran out of stones to throw and charged with a battle cry at Chi Xiao and Bai Long, followed too by a crowd of other silver and bronze masters.

“So, you think you can stop me?” Chi Xiao tilted his mouth as silver light flashed under his feet. Blurred claws flashed as he burst through the first assault group, forcing the skinny soldier and his men to retreat, bloodied and wounded.

Bai Long skimmed clean over their heads, a blurred shape with a silver sword.

There were several dead soldiers behind him, some wounded on the arms or cut on the muscles of the legs, while some were desperately holding their entrails in their slashes bellies.

“Damn!” Liu Guang cursed in anger, and dropped the rocket launcher to rush to their aid.

Chen Anguo grabbed him and shouted, “Finish the rockets first!” before reloading his submachinegun and continued firing at Bai Long and Chi Xiao.

Gritting his teeth, Liu Guang picked up the rocket launcher and pressed the trigger.

Yin Manshu jumped over the edge of the platform and squinted her eyes at the situation below. She looked around and a sudden thought came to her mind.

Xiao Bai was running towards the exit of Valentine Valley with the vine ball held in its mouth.

“You can’t have my fruit!” Yin Manshu screamed and exploded with silver light, flying after Xiao Bai like a bolt of lightning.

Several waterfalls poured into a wide gorge several dozen kilometers away from Liang Duan Mountain. The water flowed and gathered into a large pool below, where a gentle breeze sent sparkling ripples across its clear, cool surface.

In a heap of rocks by the pool sat a gigantic bird’s nest composed of many thick branches and smaller rocks, inside of which was a five-meter-thick layer of cattail reeds. Two plump parrots were nestled inside, covered with dry blood and with most of their feathers pulled or singed off.

Suddenly, they stirred, as if they felt something. Opening their eyes and poking their bulbous heads over the lip of their nest, they slowly turned round until they faced the pool, trembling softly.

A tiger was drinking there.

The tiger was more than ten meters tall even with its legs bent to reach the water, fur sparkling with gold.

“Squawk!” one of the parrots blurted out in terror, and the other parrot quickly raised its wing to cover its mate’s sharp beak. They stood in their nest frozen like stone statues, not daring to make a single sound.

The tiger turned round and glared at them with nonchalant disdain. When it grunted at them, steam jetted out of its nostrils so powerfully that the ground immediately in front of its head cracked.

“Squawk, squawk, squawk!”

The two parrots screeched in terror, flapping their battered wings as hard as they could to try and take off.

The tiger growled with annoyance at the noise. Sliding its heavy tail into the water, it then swung it around powerfully like a whip.

Big drops of water separated from the tiger’s tail and shot through the air like liquid bullets, hitting the two parrots before they had time to dodge.

Many holes appeared on the plump parrots’ beaks and they screeched in pain.

With a cold glare, the tiger sank its tail into the water again.

The two parrots, frightened out of their wits, covered their beaks and flattened themselves on the floor of their nest, not daring to make a peep.

Satisfied, the tiger turned round and continued to drink. After a while, when it had drunk its fill, it turned back to look at the bird’s net and walked towards it slowly.

The parrots were curled up at the bottom, trembling like a plate of jelly in an earthquake.

The tiger shook its head in disdain and growled.

The parrots wasted no time scrambling for their lives over the walls of their nest and trotting off one after the other without a second thought for their home.

A giant golden form, over twenty meters high, trotted along the outskirts of Sector 2, never stopping or turning except to avoid particularly strong and thick trees blocking its path. Saplings, ferns and rocks flew in all directions in its rampage, leaving a great mess in its wake.

It was heading for Liang Duan Mountain. Occasionally, the beast raised its head to look at the floating mountain and the golden barrier in the sky and grunted nervously.

All the monsters along its path trembled and cowed on the ground, not daring to expose themselves. Monstrous birds of prey screeched and flapped their wings, flying off far into the distance.

At the military headquarters in the city center of Yungang, Xu Jianjun clenched and unclenched his fists as he focused on the video sent from military intelligence.

It was footage of a giant golden ape leaping thirty meters off the ground. It was a little blurry because the ape was moving so fast, but it was clear that this ape had large, glowing eyes which shone gold with every step.

Every time this golden light flashed in its eyes it accelerated slightly, which made the image blurry.

“Is Ruo Feng’s livestream of Jiang Shaoliu and Lin Yuetao still on?” Xu Jianjun turned around to an intelligence officer and said in a low voice, “Send out a forced communication to them on my authority: no matter what happens on Liang Duan Mountain they are to give up the rare fruit and retreat immediately upon encountering any gold monsters.”

The officer nodded and switched to Ruo Feng’s livestream. The video showed Bai Long and Chi Xiao, who had just broken through the military‘s line of defense and were following Yin Manshu after Xiao Bai. At least ten soldiers were lying motionlessly on the ground behind them.

The camera abruptly shifted away to focus on the third platform.

Jiang Shaoliu and Lin Yuetao were engaged in a fierce battle.

Lin Yuetao was silvered, violently attacking the horse-faced giant. His staff had snapped in two and he was whacking the giant’s leg with the broken half still in his hands.

The horse-faced giant was glittering with golden light and roaring with anger. His fist several times passed Lin Yuetao so closely that his hair was blown back. With each miss, the giant’s huge fist blasted another deep crater in the ground.

Thick blood vessels were bulging over its muscles and its equine face was flushed red, as if it was about to erupt.

Not far away, Jiang Shaoliu roared and jumped up suddenly, punching Oxhead in the face, then rolling away and somersaulting out of his reach.

The ox-headed giant staggered back a few steps and almost fell down. His eyes glowed red with rage, as if he was reaching a breaking point. Hot steam spewed out of his large nostrils.

Bang!

Lin Yuetao whipped Horseface across the chest and his staff snapped in half again. After jumping out of the way, he anxiously shouted to Jiang Shaoliu, “Doctor Jiang, its hide’s just getting tougher and tougher with every blow!”

Jiang Shaoliu stretched his legs and stared at the ox-head giant in front of him. “Same here, by I think I’m wearing him down.”

“Ow…”

The two giants stopped attacking and looked up, raging and roaring to the sky. The upper left parts of their abdomens suddenly burst into blinding light, and their bodies became brighter and brighter.
