Chapter 67 The True and False Jiang Shaoliu

Standing on the Monkey King’s shoulder at the mouth of the Valentine Valley, Jiang Shaoliu looked a little anxious.

Lin Yuetao stopped beside the Monkey King’s foot, frowning deeply when he found nothing of value around.

“This is as far as Liu Guang saw Xiao Bai go. He could have gone anywhere from here…” Jiang Shaoliu lowered his head and shouted at Lin Yuetao below, “Are there any scouts from the military in the area? Maybe they’ve seen him.”

Lin Yuetao shook his head and replied, “Not that I know of. My men are all up on the mountain and we’ve left no one behind. I think the situation is the same for the other factions. I think we’ll have to turn to the bounty hunters for help.”

Jiang Shaoliu kept silent for a while, looking around from his high vantage point on the Monkey King’s shoulder and found nothing but jagged rocks, thick woods and the occasional stream, as well as the ever-present distant cries and roars of various beasts.

He scratched his head and said, “Monkey King, do you remember Xiao Bai’s scent? Sniff around, see if you pick up on something.”

The Monkey King slowly stooped to the ground and sniffed the dirt for a few moments, then abruptly stood up and sneezed, almost throwing Jiang Shaoliu off. The giant monkey threw up its arms helplessly.

Suddenly, a bright silver figure slid down the cliffs into Valentine Valley and stopped some distance in front of the Monkey King, doubled over with his hands on his knees, panting for breath.

Jiang Shaoliu squinted, “You are…”

It was the guy who was always following him and taking photos! He must have been hiding somewhere this whole time, so what did he want with them now?

“My name is Ruo Feng,” he wheezed, then stretched his shoulders and shouted up at Jiang Shaoliu, “I’ve been filming the action from the western peak. I know which way the white tiger went.”

Intrigued, Jiang Shaoliu patted the monkey on its neck.

The Monkey King squatted and Jiang Shaoliu jumped off, rushing towards Ruo Feng. “Are you serious? Hurry up and tell me where Xiao Bai went!”

Gravely nodding his head, Ruo Feng pointed east with one hand and to the sky with the other, and said solemnly, “I swear to God I’m telling the truth. The white tiger was heading east and then turned northeast just before it went out of sight. My guess is it’s headed for the southern district of Yungang City.”

“Southern district…” Jiang Shaoliu muttered to himself and nodded slowly.

If he knew Xiao Bai at all, he’d wager the tiger was to the army encampment south of the city where he’d spent some time in the care of Chen Anguo.

Ruo Feng tapped on his smart watch and said seriously, “There should be a few hunting parties still around in Sector 2. I’ll make you an admin in my livestream so you can use it to ask for help if you need it.”

After a short silence, Jiang Shaoliu said, “My username in your livestream room is ‘BusyKillingMonsters_NameTaken’. Friend me later on social media.”

“Gladly.” Ruo Feng tapped a few buttons on his smart watch, then took a deep breath. “Done. Well, that’s all I had for you. I hope you find your tiger.”

“Thank you.” Jiang Shaoliu climbed back up onto the Monkey King’s shoulder, nodded to Ruo Feng, then pointed northeast and shouted, “Let’s go, guys!”

The Monkey King exhaled heavily and started off, gradually picking up the pace. Lin Yuetao followed in a burst of silver light.

“Unbelievable! The famous veterinarian, Jiang Shaoliu, has become an administrator for my livestream!” Ruo Feng jumped for joy as he watched the enormous monkey’s broad back disappear into the thick forest ahead. “I’m gonna be famous…”

The Monkey King tore through the woods at breakneck speed, followed by Lin Yuetao who was trying his best to keep up. Jiang Shaoliu was straddled atop the Monkey King’s neck, operating his smart watch as the strong wind roared in his ears.

“I think I’ll disable commenting. I wonder if people will get angry?” he thought to himself, “And will they believe me when I tell them I’m Jiang Shaoliu?”

There were so many comments pouring in, hardly anyone would notice even if he tried.

“There’re so many people watching...” Jiang Shaoliu tapped the disable button and chuckled, “Sorry guys, let’s take a quick break.”

The flow of comments abruptly ceased.

“Damnit, common! Post! What’s going on?” a young man stripped down to the waist in his house in the northern district of the city muttered under his breath, repeatedly clicking the ‘post’ button on his computer only to get an error message saying comments are disabled. “Who the hell is BusyFightingMonsters_NameTaken? Is Ruo Feng crazy? Why did he make this guy admin?”

“I’ve sent my love to Doctor Jiang, why am I banned…?” A cute, teary-eyed, teenage girl wailed at her computer screen. Her friend rubbed her shoulder and gently said, “Don’t worry, Miao Miao, you still have a chance. They blocked everyone, not just you.”

A buff middle-aged man in a clean dark-grey suit from the underground complex in the south of the city slowly swiveled around in his office chair when he saw the error message. “BusyFightingMonsters_NameTaken disabled commenting? Who is that? Hmm…”

Six monster hunters guarding the carcass of a giant boar near a riverbank on the outskirts of Sector 2 turned off the livestream in disappointment. “What the hell,” one of them grumbled, “We missed all the juicy action on Liang Duan Mountain because of this stupid pig and now we can’t even ask people what happened there.”

“Totally.” the thin guy next to him rolled his eyes and pointed upstream. “Say, just before this boar showed up, did you guys catch the white tiger making off with the heavenly fruit right from under those giants’ noses? Wanna go look for it? It might still have the fruit!”

The leader stared at him: “You nuts? Didn’t you see Bai Long, Chi Xiao and Yin Manshu go after it? Mess with the likes o’ them and there won’t be nothing left of you ‘cept a wet spot on the ground.”

“All right, all right!” The thin guy rolled his eyes and glanced at his smart watch again. “Hey, look! That new admin just said he’s Jiang Shaoliu.”

“Hello, everyone. I am Jiang Shaoliu. My white tiger has run off with the rare fruit from Liang Duan Mountain and I have no idea where it is now. Please PM me if you see him. There will be a reward for any information that will help me find my tiger. Sorry about disabling the comments just now. I’m turning them back on.”

Bumping around on the back of the Monkey King’s neck, Jiang Shaoliu anxiously stared at his smart watch, waiting to see what came up.

Sector 2 was huge and most masters in the area had gone to Liang Duan Mountain, so they wouldn’t know any more than he did. On the other hand, even if someone did catch sight of a white tiger, who’s to say if they were even watching the livestream?

Naturally, the Doctor Jiang groupies were having a field day…

“Are you sure you are Jiang Shaoliu? I didn’t see your white tiger but I want your cute little white tiger. PM’d you... <3 xoxo”

“Brother Jiang Shaoliu, I’m only 19 and maybe younger than you, but I’m really cute, you can find my pics in my Weibo! I love animal so much and I’ve just enrolled in Yungang University of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. Will you teach me how to take care of animals?”

“I’m from a poor family, but when I was young my mother always told me that poor people make the best housewives and caretakers, so if you marry me I will be the best partner ever! I will always keep the house clean and neat for you and treat the monkey and the tiger like family.”

Naturally, a few people could not resist pretending to be Jiang Shaoliu themselves.

Someone calling himself ‘JiangShaoliu_Yungang’ spent money to have his comments highlighted: “Dear girls, please note that this administrator is not the real Jiang Shaoliu, I am!”

‘JiangShaoliuTheVet’ was not so happy either: “I’ve always kept a low profile here, but someone must be accountable for the truth! Tremble, baddies and liars, for the real Jiang Shaoliu is here!”

“You cheats having fun pretending to be me?” wrote a user called ‘Jang_Shaoliu’, who flooded the page with colorful messages: “My username proves who I am. Dear girls, please don’t be blinded by those impostors!”

Jiang Shaoliu didn’t know whether to cry nor to laugh.

Ding-ding.

The tune of a new private message rang from his smart watch.
