Chapter 22 “It”, the demon

"Oh, ah..." A terrible cry came out of my mouth. Everything else was thrown out of my mind. There was only one thought left in my mind, a cruel reality!

"I killed my master... I killed my master... I killed him... I killed him... I... I... I..."

"Master! Wake up, don't die... Open your eyes... Are you kidding me? Right? Move... Don't die, don't die..."

What did I do? I killed him, the person who raised me up, the person who saved my life, taught me magic. I killed my most beloved person, the only one in the world who cared and loved me! What on earth did I do?

I let go of my hand. My master’s body slipped down to the ground, leaving traces of blood on my robe and my hands. My mind was all blank... What to do, what to do... I kept asking myself. But my mind was a mess. I stood next to the body of my master, helplessly like a kid who lost his way.

With such kind of injury, there was no way to resurrect,... The body had to be a whole piece for "resurrect magic" to be effective...Right, it's better to use "serious injury therapy magic" with the last remaining vitality of his life. Then the "resurrect magic" may be useful...I needed to find someone like a priest...Maybe a magician...I needed to be quick...It only took a little while for the body to become stiff after death, I had wasted too much time...Wait, I myself were a magician, a power level 25 magician...Had I recited therapy or resurrection magic before?...Ah, yea, I remembered. I had prepared some magic in case I had to ask for the whereabouts of the King from the dying captives. I must apply the magic now...Otherwise it would be too late.

I finally calmed down. Magic spells began to appear in my mind one by one. I didn’t have time to judge but used all three “therapy magic” I had prepared before this war on my master, followed by “resurrection magic”…

"Master! Wake up..." I cried, tears falling from my red-lighted eyes onto my master’s head. But all the spells were useless. The kill magic was too strong because I originally intended to tear the little kid into pieces. If it wasn’t for several protective magic on my master’s body, his whole body would have turned into countless pieces. The body of my master was slowly breaking down. Every ‘therapy’ spell I used was completely counter-affected by the deadly Necromancer magic. The only effect of my ‘therapy’ spell was to delay the speed of the body’s crack!

The old magician's body was slowly disintegrating. Starting from the chest, slowly, turned into a mixture of blood and flesh. His face, the face that accompanied me for fifteen years, was also disintegrating...I can only watch this in vain. There was nothing I could do!

I stood up, looked around at the remains of the palace. My hands were covered by sticky mixture of red and white, mixed with some hair…

My master died, completely died. As a great magician recognizable on the Sage Tower, he actually died on my hand? I killed him! I completely destroyed his body…I completed my avenge, killing the old bastard along with his Kingdom…But I killed my master... everything was so unreal. It was like a dream... a nightmare... Yes, this must be a dream!

All right! How did I manage to call “it” out? For a new magician like me, I actually managed to call “it” out and received such horrible power from it?! Countless records on the Sage Tower showed that even the strongest magician was unable to call “it” out! But me, a young magician in his twentieth, with only fifteen years of learning in magic, was able to call “it” out and gained the dark power from “it”… How could this be possible? I easily got my revenge, a revenge that I thought would take my whole life to complete. I easily destroyed a Kingdom, killing the King, realized my vow in front of my mother’s grave…Moreover, I was actually fighting against my master face-to-face…I even defeated my master, whom used to beat me down easily before…I even killed my master…completely destroyed his body…

Correct! It’s just a dream. A very common one of the countless nightmares that a young magician had in a cheap hotel... I couldn’t possibly confront my master, not even killing him…Until this moment. I realized the one thing more important than revenge. What was the meaning of revenge if I lost him?...

Wake up. Quickly wake up. Get back into the hard-working magician who planned to become a court magician to complete his revenge.

Another pillar fell off, making a big bang and dragging my thoughts back to reality. I pinched my face hard in a hope to wake up from this nightmare. But the pain from my face was only telling me that everything just happened was real! I looked at my hands again, the glaring red on my hands reminded me everything that I had done!

It’s all real... It’s real... It’s a fact that I can’t deny... I killed my master... Killed my master... Wait a minute... It was a mistake. I didn’t intend to kill him. I never thought of killing him…Never…My master was a person whom I would sacrifice my life to protect…How would I kill him... It was his own sudden rush over to me…It was he himself who rushed into the range of my magic…The magic was not intended to hurt him at all…It was his fault…Not my fault…Sparks of thoughts in my mind were jumping wildly.

"He started the fight first. I was forced to defend myself…I became a Necromancer only to use the power of darkness. I was never on the side of the dark force…I didn’t do anything bad. I was just to revenge…That old bastard killed my mother. I was only to revenge for her. I didn’t do anything wrong…I was not wrong…Not wrong…

Cries flew to my ears, cutting off my thoughts. The little child was crying. In his arms was the head of his mother!

The little kid turned to me and looked at me. His determined look sent me a step backwards.

"You killed my mother... you murderer!" he cried out!

A sudden dizziness struck me, making my body shake! What did I do? I killed his mother in front of a little child…Just the same as what the old bastard did in front of me!

The little kid looked at me. The hatred in his eyes made me keep stepping back. Though he was a harmless kid who could be killed with a simplest spell, I was still afraid. What was I afraid of…This little kid?...

I turned around, hoping to leave this place. The old bastard was already dead...It made no sense for me to stay here…

"Fulfill your covenant!" A voice rang up in my heart, a horrible voice, the voice of "it". "It" suddenly appeared up. May “it” had been watching all these. A horrible thought jumped up in my mind. Maybe “it” has always been inside me since we reached the covenant!

"My covenant? I had achieved it. I had already had my revenge..." I replied in horror.

"No! Don't forget. You have promised to revenge in the cruelest manner…Your covenant has yet been completed…”

For a moment, my body lost control. I turned around, walking to the little kid! This was not what I wanted, but what “it” wanted! “It” could control my body! I can see and feel. But I can’t control my body. Right now, I was like a beggar…

I clearly saw my hand pulling over the little kid. Then I heard my own spell.

"Wait a minute... this little kid has nothing to do with my revenge. His father is dead. It doesn't make any sense killing him now..."

I struggled desperately. But it didn't work. "It" was much stronger than me. There was no way for me to stop the spell!

"No!...He is still a child, he doesn't know anything..."

(This catastrophe became the story of the bards for many years, a disaster that almost destroyed the northern Kingdom of Dalak. Under the command of an evil Necromancer, the death army captured the city of Darak and made this richest Kingdom in the north completely collapse! One third of the residents of Darak City died in this disaster. At the last moment, the strongest magician of the Sage Tower, the great scholar and hero, Saga Dolu, defeated the Necromancer at the cost of his own life. The death army lost their source of power and collapsed. The remaining human beings were spared! A surviving guard in the ruins of the palace told the remaining citizens about the savior of the Kingdom. Two years later, when the Dalak City was reconstructed, people built a statue for Dolu in memory of this great magician!)

A warmth of things flowed into my body, which restored my mind. And I gradually regained my consciousness. I started to feel the unbearable pain in my body!
