The Han Valley chief and her companions eventually reached a spot near the middle course of the river. From there they could see any presence of cultivators. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the bandit boss when they arrived.

Chief Xing Yi went into deep thoughts—and after few moments, she took out the map and looked intently into it. But she couldn't figure out something until one of her companions made a comment.

"Chief, the mark on the map seems to cover the entire portion of the river..," he politely said obviously not wanting to sound to assertive, "..and we are at the center of the mark."

The cultivator then paused and looked far ahead the river as if trying to convey his point.

"The mark may not be intended that way..," he added, "..the river is long, and it could mean any part of the river."

"Hmmn," the Han Valley chief uttered.

She felt that what her companion said may be true but she also felt that they could not afford to look in every corner of the river lest they lose the bandits.

"Alright," the chief suddenly said, "let's split up."

The companions nodded. The move was a risky one as they had no idea how many bandits they could possibly face so cutting their total strength could be disadvantageous—but, at that point, it appeared to be the better option if they wanted to chase after the bandit boss.

"The three of us will check the upper course," Chief Xing Yi instructed as she gestured her hand towards two other Han Valley cultivators, "..while the rest of you will follow the flow of the river downstream."

They all agreed and wasted no time as they went their separate ways.

"The battle ended quickly than I thought," one of the Purple Mist Sect disciple asserted towards his fellow disciples while hidden in the trees.

"Well..," the other disciple replied, "..that was expected since the Han Valley has an emperor on their side.."

"Although the bandit boss' move abandoning his underlings was quite unexpected," the first disciple remarked after he shook his head.

After he said those words, his facial expression showed signs that he would want to invite the others to follow the Han Valley cultivators back to the base—but the the third disciple gestured to stop.

"But the Han Valley's campaign is not over yet," the third sect disciple said. "Are you not interested to watch the fight between the two leaders?"

"Ah."

As soon as they realized that there would be more action to witness, they all rushed to the direction where the Han Valley chief went.

***************

While Qai and his group was on his way back to the base, he continuously activated his 'Hawkeye' skill to check ahead any obstacle along the way. So far, aside from occasional low leveled demonic beasts, the group had not met any danger.

"Stop," Qai suddenly said as he instructed everyone to dock behind the bushes.

"What is it!?" Xiao Ning asked.

"Sage bandits," Qai quickly answered and opened his palms to show that the bandits were actually five cultivators several meters ahead.

What he did not know was that what he saw was as a matter of fact the bandit boss himself and his trusted aides—and indeed all of whom were at high stages in the Sage realm. And they appeared to be busily doing something.

"What!?" Xiao Ning muttered with obvious fear in her eyes.

"They have not noticed us yet," Qai calmly assured. "But we better hurry and escape fast.. I don't think we can handle them."

Qai was himself stunned by the fact that he met such group at such a time. He did not know what to do but saving the children, was of utmost priority.

'How come such high leveled bandit be here..,' Qai asked himself. '..shouldn't they be fighting in the frontlines!?'

"Take the them to the base," Qai softly said to Xiao Ning. "Shandian and I will buy you some time."

"No..," Xiao Ning quickly said.

Surely she did not want to simply abandon Qai in the midst of five sage bandits—and her face evidently showed such kind of concern.

But Qai found it opportune that the bandits attention seemed to be elsewhere.

"Don't worry..," Qai said.

Qai was not yet finished with his words when he noticed another group of cultivators sneaking in from afar.

"Chief Xing Yi!?" Qai lightly uttered in surprise.

"What now?" Xiao Ning asked as it appeared she wasn't able to hear Qai's words.

"The Han Valley chief is here," Qai quickly replied. "She's hiding on the treetops with two other sage cultivators."

"Ah," Xiao Ning's face brightened up as she found hope in their already dire situation.

"The chief must have chased the bandits here," Qai remarked.

Qai maximized his 'Hawkeye' skill and once again looked around the area. He ascertained whether there are more bandits around—that was because he was aware that the Han Valley chief was there to face the bandits. Thereafter he sighed deeply and faced Xiao Ning and the children who were exuding fearful eyes.

"Let's go as planned," Qai said. "You take the children to the base.. Shandian and I shall stat and support the chief in the shadows.."

"What!?"
