Mo Shui thought for a moment but could not think of any 'old' friend of Qai other than the Purple Mist Sect Master.

But to her, it was highly improbable that the sect master would part with such extraordinary treasure.

The term 'old' was apparently a relative term which could either refer to an 'aged' friend or a long-time acquaintance of Qai. So Mo Shui's deduction could not get anywhere.

But even if Mo Shui did not get anything from Qai, she nevertheless conceded and stopped from further inquiring.

"You better keep using that pendant at a minimum..," she suddenly said, "..otherwise, it will attract too much attention."

Mo Shui knew that the spatial pendant was one of a kind so she made the remark.

Qai nodded in agreement. He was actually very discreet in exposing early his prized 'Chui Shi,' it just so happened that Qai had earlier been surprised by Mo Shui's unexpected appearance which forced him and Shandian to raise their guards.

"Anyway..," Mo Shui quickly added, "we better head to the clan's estate now."

"Yeah," Shu Liang interrupted. "I'm pretty sure the Mo Clan patriarch would be delighted to see my younger brother."

***************

Indeed, the Patriarch Mo Chen was happy to see the Shu siblings, particularly Qai.

In fact, he was already waiting for the two in the patriarch's manor when they arrived. The patriarch thus was already aware of their presence in the city—that was because Mo Shui's companions had earlier reported what transpired that day and the reason why the patriarch's granddaughter did not come back with them.

Qai then immediately explained the purpose of their visit upon meeting the Mo Clan head.

"Hmmmn," the patriarch uttered with a slight rub on his bearded chin while listening.

Qai also confidently divulged that everything he was trying to do was in preparation for his trip in the perennial gathering of the five great sects in the continent.

The patriarch was apparently amazed by the revelation. But as far as he was concerned and his knowledge of Qai's recent exploits, he did not feel any shock with the young cultivator's sudden rise and by the special attention he was receiving from the Purple Mist Sect Master.

"I have already heard a lot of your recent success from Elder Long," the patriarch quickly added with a wide grin.

He then paused for a moment and got close from where Qai stood.

"And why am I not surprised..," the Mo Clan patriarch lightly mumbled.

Qai simply smiled at Patriarch Mo Chen's remarks. He did not know how to react at the latter's praise—so he just tried to change the subject of the conversation.

"Your granddaughter is way more amazing," Qai politely said. "I was surprised to see her at the peak of Earth stage.."

He was not yet finished with his statement when his sister suddenly interrupted.

"True..," Shu Liang said with a look that clearly showed amazement, "..that was like sect-standard level."

"You flatter our clan too much," the patriarch replied in jest. "But seriously, I'm gonna tell you young ones something interesting.. this is is not a secret anyway."

Qai and Shu Liang unintentionally looked at each other—obviously taken aback by what the Mo Clan patriarch could possibly tell them.

The two thus opened their senses wide not wanting to miss anything.

The patriarch on the other hand took a deep breath then threw a smile.

"Our Mo Clan is planning to transform itself into a minor sect," Patriarch Mo Chen articulated.

"Eh."

It actually made sense that Mo Clan should start considering their group as a sect—the clan had been undeniably one of the top for many years among the great clans in the region.

It was just a matter of the patriarch declaring the clan as one of the minor sects in the area—and young cultivators would definitely not think twice of getting into the Mo Clan.

As a matter of fact, the Mo Clan could probably outmatch some of the minor sects.

****************

The basic difference between a sect and cultivation clans or families was that clans and families were generally led by a core family having the same surname.

While there were times that clans or families would necessarily recruit other cultivators, they would still be strict when it came to passing down heirlooms which they often do so from generation to generation along with secret cultivation methods and skills generally developed by ancestors.

On the other hand, a sect was much bigger but an open organization which operated like a school. And with the help of sect elders, they would instruct disciples in the proper methods of cultivation or training in the martial arts styles and skills of the sect.

The sect disciples live in the sect which basically provided for their daily needs. However, there was practically always a strict hierarchy amongst members of a sect.

And because sects could openly recruit cultivators, they are generally much stronger than clans in terms of battle power.

And in Mo Clan's case, which was probably the only backside of turning into one, once it becomes a sect, the core family would lose its identity and hierarchy would now be determined in terms of cultivation level of members.

***************

"What would transforming into a sect mean to the clan?" Qai curiously asked.

"Ho ho ho," the Mo Clan patriarch chuckled. "You have no idea, boy."
