Apparently, the Black Shadow Clan was once a mere underground organization which specialized in assassination jobs and whose base practically moved from one place to another.

And even if the organization had already made a name for itself in a very long time, it was only recently that the Black Shadow Clan was actually able to establish its foothold in Sun City.

But not only had the clan managed to finally raise its status, it also managed to 'monopolize' several businesses in one portion of the city which was now known as the 'Shadow' territory.

Such feat was enough for the clan to be able to gain the support and backing of one of the region's major sects—and that also added to the already notorious reputation of the clan.

And all those successes as of late of the Black Shadow Clan were all thanks to a single cultivator—its recently anointed head.

His name was Teng Gui, or more popularly known in the territory as the 'Poison King.'

Teng Gui was a cultivator with Poison elemental affinity at mid Earth stage in the Emperor realm.

He succeeded the seat of the clan around a dozen of years back when he broke through a level in his cultivation.

It was said that he challenged the previous clan head in a duel and successfully won by completely crippling the latter's cultivation which practically deformed him as if the previous clan head was reduced into a mere 'mortal.'

And allegedly, he was the noted enemy of the 'rogue' cultivators, Liu Hei and Liu Hua and, apparently, the uncle of the Teng Hu whom Qai slain few years back in the Soaring Sky palace inside the Desolate Wasteland.

According to many, Teng Gui intentionally suspended equipping any skill when he crossed the Emperor realm. That was because he was looking for a specific rare class Emperor grade skill especially forged for cultivators with Poison elemental affinity which he did not possess back then.

And only when he broke through the mid Earth stage that he finally found his preferred skill. It was also believed that it marked the start when he showed his true colors of coveting the clan head's position and attempted a challenge.

The skill was known as 'Virulence.'

Virulence was actually a buff skill said to increase, for a time, all the Poison abilities of the cultivator. It flowed from the idea that the innate poison attribute of the cultivator would extremely intensify itself to the extent that it could damage the host.

But in effect, it would thereby unbelievably enhance all the cultivator's skills by tenfold—and in Poison King's case, it naturally made the likes of 'Poison Haze' and 'Immortal Poison' skills extremely potent even when facing another cultivator with the same Poison elemental affinity.

***************

In Sun City, moreover, most of the known slave traders were based in the 'Shadow' territory—or more exactly, they were under the Black Shadow clan's protection.

And that was the place where Dong Li was about to bring Qai.

It was not really a dangerous place to begin with—at least to a cultivator's standpoint. But its market could be said to be filled with quackery or illicit transactions.

Qai meanwhile were already fed with all those informations as they walked their way towards the 'Shadow' territory.

"Young master," Dong Li said. "Are you, by any chance, interested in purchasing a slave?"

Qai neither agreed nor disagreed. He simply gave his young mortal guide a slight grin.

"Young master," Dong Li once again called. "I heard slave cultivators were under some sort of spell."

Qai already knew that part.

He had diligently observed the reactions of the slaves he saw in the public—and he figured it easily out that they were undeniably beside themselves.

But to him, if there was a way for a cultivator to control another's consciousness, then there should also be a method to dispel it.

"I also heard that a slave cultivator is forced to suspend any skill," Dong Li explained.

He evidently revealed the information in a reverently obedient fashion as if he was serving Qai like his true master.

"And that only the master of the slave can actually dictate which skill should a slave cultivator equip..," he added with a proud look. "At most, a slave cultivator is already equipped with 'Beast Taming' skill but is yet to contract any domesticated demonic beast."

According to previous information Qai got, most slave cultivators, if not all, were in the Expert realm.

And if Dong Li's additional details were true, then the best possible slave could anyone purchase was a Heavenly stage Expert with three 'slots' available for skills.

Qai was pondering all those things while they were walking in the busy streets of Sun City.

"We're here, young master," Dong Li suddenly said.

It was very evident how the atmosphere of the environment changed from a free market into a highly toxic one.

While there were still plenty of trading shops around, one could definitely sense that the streets became heavy with Qi pressure. It was as if someone was watching over every movement in the surroundings.

Qai was no exception with the experience. He could definitely tell that the 'Shadow' territory was way different from the 'Central Market' and 'Alliance' territory but he was not one to give a hang.

"I think I'm gonna buy a 'slave'," he suddenly remarked.
