The foot of the mountain was a vast forested area and it was said to be covered with purple miasma. The sect most probably took its name from such special charateristic of the mountain.

It was like a natural first line of defense as its stench would easily prey any person or wild beast in the mortal realm--although not cultivators.

The outer layer of the forest was relatively close to the village--probably about a full-day travel on foot. But the forest itself is a long stretch of miles filled with demonic beasts. It would probably take Qai and his group a week, starting from the outskirts, to reach the sect main entrance.

And so the initial plan that the group had in mind was to camp for the first night on the fringe of forest and enter the inner portion at sunrise. They wouldn't want to easily expose themselves to danger on the first day.

So on that first night, after everyone had eaten dinner and gathered around a small fire for small talk, each took a position to spend the rest of the evening cultivating.

And because Shandian did not need to cultivate--since by virtue of the soul contract, it would naturally follow its master's level--the black tiger was tasked to be on watch.

As soon as morning came, the group immediately set off to get deep in the forest.

***************

"Sect Headmaster," a disciple reported, "it appears some uninvited guests have come within the borders of our territory."

Little did Qai and his group know that the miasma also served as a barrier to detect presence of outsiders.

"Let them be," the master replied, "I don't think they mean any harm.. I think I they are the villagers.. just keep watch and see what they're up to."

The Purple Sect headmaster was quite known in the continent. He was one of those who at least reached the initial heaven stage of Emperor realm--an amazing feat among cultivators.

When one set his foot into emperor realm, cultivation progress would become really really slow and strenuous. In fact the higher the realm was, the more difficult it was to cultivate.

Patriarch Mo Chen of the Mo Clan, for one, who was considered one of the strongest in Jiang City, was only a mid earth stage Emperor. Truth was, he had been unable to breakthrough for hundreds of years since.

But this Sect Headmaster's level was simply and already beyond the reach for most of the cultivators--and that was why the Purple Mist Sect was considered the overlord of the region.

***************

Deep within the forest, Qai and his group were busy fending off an assault of about a hundred demonic beasts.

But since the demonic beasts were mostly at the earth and sky stages of the expert realm, defending their lives was like a child's play for the group.

'Wabooooom.'

'Baaam,' 'Baaam.'

'Rooooaaaar.'

'Swooosh,' 'Swooosh.'

It was their first fight and it did not pose too much a problem--and so they didn't exert too much energy so as not to drain their stamina.

From a distance though, a couple of sect disciples were spying on the battle. The two disciples weren't actually impressed but they find the black tiger interesting since not a lot of cultivators would have a contracted beast.

Although the presence of miasma made it difficult to fight, the battle didn't take long to be finished. And as soon as the the group was done, they all collected the beast cores and hides.

The group went on in their journey and occasionally fought small pack of demonic beasts along the way and grabbed some herbs as well.

The occassional fights were getting more and more difficult as they went deep because the demonic beasts were getting stronger the deeper they went. But to them, the stronger the demonic beasts were, the bountiful the harvest of the fights would be.

And when sunset came, they once again looked for a strategic place to camp.

"Let's set our camp over that hill," Shu Wei suggested.
