Chapter 22.2: Sharing a Room
In the evening, Duanmu Xi and Xuanyuan Mo went into an inn.
“Two superior rooms.”
Duanmu Xi took out an orange crystal stone and placed it on the counter.
“Of course!”
“Just one room will do.”
The innkeeper was just about to call out to the waiter to bring the two guests upstairs when he was interrupted by another voice.
The innkeeper then stared at Xuanyuan Mo in surprise.
[This man had actually taken the initiative to ask to stay in the same room with the lady? But this man has truly flawless looks!]
Duanmu Xi looked into Xuanyuan Mo’s pure and honest gaze and a glint flashed in her eyes.
He did not seem to realize how astounding his words really were. But since he did not seem to care, she really didn’t mind it all that much either.
“One superior room.”
Duanmu Xi turned back to see the innkeeper’s bedazzled eyes and her tiny face turned taut, her icy voice heavily laced with strong displeasure.
When the innkeeper heard the voice that was so cold it chilled his bones, his heart quivered a moment that snapped him back to his senses. He then said in a slightly shaky voice: “Alright. Waiter, bring our two guests up to the second level.”
“Will our two distinguished guests please proceed upstairs?”
— Inside the room in the inn —
“Did you notice it as well?”
Duanmu Xi poured out a cup of tea for Xuanyuan Mo and passed it to him.
“Is Little Xi talking about the fact that we are being followed?”
Xuanyuan Mo accepted the cup of tea and took a sip.
Duanmu Xi nodded her head and her brows knitted up.
[Who are they? Could be it someone sent by Duanmu Qing?]
“You don’t have to worry. I will protect you.”
Xuanyuan Mo said as he looked at Duanmu Xi with a serious expression.
Duanmu Xi felt warmth spread in her heart, the sparkle of a smile in her eyes.
“It is because of this that you wanted to stay in the same room as me?”
Xuanyuan Mo’s lips stiffened nervously.
“If you mind it, I can…..”
“The person who would mind such a thing would be you. I’ll go get the waiter to fetch some hot water for your bath.”
That one statement caused Xuanyuan Mo to turn red from head to toe. He had forgotten that this was the Vermillion Bird Kingdom. Till the waiter came in with the hot water, the hot flush still had not faded from his face.
That night, Xuanyuan Mo slept on the floor, his face a red shade. His mind continued to replay the scene where the shadow of Duanmu Xi’s silhouette was reflected on the screen when she bathed.
This place where the roles of men and women were reversed was really driving him mad.
“Snowy.”
Duanmu Xi rolled herself to the edge of the bed and looked at Xuanyuan Mo.
“Hmm?”
Xuanyuan Mo looked up and their gazes locked. They looked into each other’s eyes for a long while, with neither one of them saying a word.
A dark shadow suddenly appeared in the room, which shocked Duanmu Xi into jumping right inside Xuanyuan Mo’s arms.
