THUMP

The sound of something falling echoed throughout the dark cave. A toad-like head fell off the Groglod as it was replaced by a fountain of green blood.

A man flicked his sword to scatter the blood stain as the result of beheading the monster.

Roger was impressed by the swift arc made from the sword. However, he was unable to admire it for too long as he has to focus on fighting the monster in front of him.

The monster fighting against him were different from what he faced before. This one was holding a fine sword and was equipped with chest armor, increasing its durability. However, it was only a matter of time before his party defeated the monster's variant.

The party was abruptly formed due to the warping mechanism. Roger felt that his chance of survival will increase if he joined a proper party. Thus, he executed his plan, fully aware of another kind of possibility.

The party was well balanced for a hunt. He and another man, named Cole, served as their first line of defense.

The man with the swift sword was called Samuel. He acted as the leader of the team. In fact, he was the one who invited Roger to join the party. The longsword was hanging at the holster on his waist.

Other than that, there is one archer and a thief inside the party. The thief's job is to scout ahead and discover hidden traps for the party. The job description was pretty much similar to the one in most MMORPG games.

"Everyone, please wait a moment. I could sense a presence at a distance. Let me, scout, first."

The thief disappeared after saying those words. The speed in which he blended into the shadow was several times faster than Jake. The pitch black clothes he was wearing seems to contribute greatly to the execution of the skill.

The party waited as they chatted amongst themselves. Samuel acted in a very leader-like manner as he tried to unify the members.

Soon, only Roger was still a bit left out of the party. There is a hint of acceptance in his eyes, mixed with a certain amount of vigilance. It meant that he could trust the party until a certain point.

An hour later, the thief's arrogant face reappeared at the corner of the cave. However, his face was full of shock and fear as he gulped a few times before stuttering to deliver the information.

"T-this is bad…"

"What's wrong?"

The unusual behavior manages to take everyone's attention, including Roger's.

Right before he opened his mouth, a few footsteps were heard from a distance. It was from the place they came from. The party readied their stance in preparation for the incoming presence.

Fortunately, some fellow humans emerged from the darkness. It seems that the latter party has finally caught up to him. For the information, Roger's party was the first one to take the initiative to explore the cave.

The newly arrived party was large in size. Almost twice the size of Roger's party. It seems that most of the remaining hunters have gathered. The whereabouts of the remaining hunters were currently unknown. They might be waiting for rescue or have formed a similar group and is currently marching towards Roger's party.

The leader of the new party looked a little displeased at the sight of Roger's party. It was the gaze of envy and hatred due to the monopolization of monster core. They could finally let out the feelings and frustration after catching up with Roger's party.

Roger never let down his defense against this group of people as he understands that the most dangerous living being in the world was, ironically, none other than his fellow humans.

"You! How dare you monopolize the cores?!"

Samuel responded with a smile on his face, trying to calm the anger down. However, he was defeated by the thief, who was still stuttering earlier. Strangely, his face somewhat calmed down, unlike his previous expression.

"You don't have to worry about that! We won't be able to even we want to."

"What do you mean by that?"

Instantly, every pair of eyes present turned towards the thief.

"In front of us, at around 2 km ahead, I spotted a whole village of those monsters! I can't give an exact number but I estimate it to be at least in hundreds! I was lucky enough to escape."

Cold sweat run down the thief's body as he recalled his previous situation. His body shuddered once again.

The mood grew silent at the declaration. The reaction was separated into two. Those who are scared by it and those excited by it.

Naturally, the ones who are excited by the huge number of monsters were the newcomers, who didn't know the strength of the monster they're dealing with.

Even Samuel and Cole had a grim expression on their face, trying to think of a way out of the predicament.

"Hmph! Let's go"

The leader motioned his party to move towards the direction given by the thief. He didn't believe that the Groglods were a threat as Samuel's party had the leisure to set up a small camp and seemed relaxed. However, that was a huge misunderstanding.

Some of the party, however, remained still. Their eyes showed sign of hesitation as they pondered about their decision. Their behavior was quite normal since they're only a newly formed party made in case of emergency.

"Chet, let's just go."

The leader showed a look of disdain towards those who chose to stay behind while continuing their steps, leaving them to the responsibility of Samuel.

"*Sigh* Let's go, everyone. We should have a larger chance of success if we fought together."

Such is Samuel's best decision. It was indeed the best solution to fight a village full of unknown monsters.

The party, including the thief, nodded in agreement. However, the thief couldn't help but shudder in fear at the great danger, waiting ahead of them.

*

The village of Groglod was similar to the one Jake and Kana encountered, along with the fact that there is a lake at the top part of the village.

The resemblance means that there is one other danger, the variant, Groglod Mage.

That certain Groglod was currently feeling a bit anxious and rage after conversing with a kneeling Groglod in front of it.

The kneeling Groglod looked desperate as it gave a report, causing the Groglod Mage's anger to increase with each sound that came out of its mouth.

This Groglod is none other than a survivor of Jake and Kana's massacre at the other side of the lake. It seemed to have a certain degree of wisdom as it judged the situation to be unfavorable and proceed to warn the other village.

Exactly after hearing the report, the angered Groglod Mage shouted in an unknown language. The surrounding Groglod seemed to understand its attention and started to move out of the village. However, their actions were stopped by a certain sound.

RING RING RING

It was the sound of their village's bell. The three consecutive ringing was a sign of an intruder. It seemed that there are more foolish humans that dare to intrude their village.

The Groglod Mage gave out an eerie smile as it gave out a brand new order to oppose the new 'threat'.

For the opening act, it decided to go out to the village's entrance. Using its pair of yellow eyes, it could see a group of intruder fighting in a distance, killing off its kin with their equipment.

It lifted its staff with one hand as its mouth moved, muttering some kind of spell. The sentence act as an initiation to the creation of a large fireball on top of the Mage's head. With a flick of its hand, the fireball was launched to a distance, towards the party of human, bringing along its high temperature with it.

*

The party fighting at a distance in front of the Groglod's village was none other than the ones who left the camp.

The appearance of a living monster inside the dungeon made their blood boil with excitement. It was their greed for monster cores that moved their feet despite their fear of the unknown.

The battle was not intense as they assumed a proper formation and manage to kill off the monster with a slow pace.

The leader of the party let out a small smirk as he counted the number of the Groglod.

'First, it's these 4 Groglods. Then, we'll use explosives to blow up that gate and kill our way using the confusion.'

For them, the plan was perfect as they would monopolize a large amount of monster core from the dungeon. Most of them were grade 3 hunters, as such they were able to fight against 2 of the monster easily. The fear of the unknown gradually lessened as the fighting became easier. However, all of that was destroyed by a single, unforeseen event.

The first one that notices the change in the cave's temperature was the archer, who is most sensitive to the change in the air's moisture. He scanned around the surrounding only to see a ball of despair at a distance.

"F-Fireball!! They have a mage in that village!"

"What!?!?"

The party members were shocked by the archer's words as they flinched, leaving out a small opening in their formation.

The Groglod, however, didn't miss that timing and lunged themselves to the hunters. The attack was an unorthodox one as the remaining Groglod did the same attack pattern. It was to hug the hunter with their entire body, restricting their movement.

"Why you—! Let go of me!"

The hunters struggled to free themselves but to no avail. The Groglods used their last bit of strength to firmly hold them in place and didn't let go even until their last breath.

The temperature in the cave increased with each second. The thoughts of despair started to form inside the head of those hunters. The only one with an unrestrained movement is the archer, who stood at the back of the formation while dealing damage. He realized the current predicament and made a decision. It was to run and leave the party to their death.

His action was not surprising as the party was randomly formed due to the warping mechanism of the dungeon.

The other member of the party realized that their archer left them and started to curse.

"You fucke—!"

However, they didn't manage to finish their sentence before a sea of flame engulfed their body, turning it to human-sized charcoal along with the Groglods.

Roger's party happened to arrive just in time to witness the disturbing scene. They saw the archer ran and quickened their steps in order to preserve more fighting power to defeat the monster. However, it was all too late.

"Damn! They have a mage! Everyone retreat! We need to come up with a plan."

Samuel's words aligned with everyone's thoughts as they started to retreat as quickly as possible. However, it was still too late.

The village's gate, which was closed until a moment ago, was currently wide open, pouring out a large number of Groglods. A fully equipped Groglod, with a sword in their hands, were leading the army as they let out a war cry.

"SHIT! Everyone! Get ready for battle. Archers, ready your bow and snipe the enemies while searching for the mage in that army. I don't believe they can shoot that large scale magic in such a short time. Find them and kill them before they can recover enough magic power!"

Samuel's words echoed throughout the cave. His small party reacted in a swift manner while the new members were a little slow in the movement but managed to adapt.

Roger felt great danger coming from the large army ahead but doesn't have any choice other than advancing. He stood in front of the formation, together with Cole as he welcomed the Groglod's attack.

But don't worry, I don't intend to leave this novel unfinished
