Of course Chamberlain had no idea what she was thinking about. Even if he did, he had no way of consoling her, he wasn't really interested in her.

After he got into the bathroom, Lena wondered if she should call her mother or friends for advice.

But before then, would they then be sharing a bed since they've collected the certificates?

All these thoughts made her forget about the book she was reading. She did not know when he came out of the bedroom.

Not until the bed dipped was she aware of his presence.

"How about we talk? We need to lay down certain rules, I can't keep sleeping on the couch." He said as he rubbed his right shoulder. His eyes were unreadable while hers docile and innocent.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

"Huh?"

Her naiveté was what made him feel like a paedophile, setting their age gap aside.

He rehearsed, "We need to establish boundaries."

She wasn't sure if it was his tone or the way he looked at her, she immediately sat up.

Chamberlain's tone wasn't affectionate. Not the usual way you speak to your "childhood sweetheart", it was more like the way he spoke to every other person, his subordinates.

Not waiting for her to register his words or acknowledge them, he continued, "This side of the bed is mine, do not cross over, else you're out."

Lena's eyes widened in disbelief. She did not expect her husband to threaten to kick her out.

"We're married!" She tried asserting her rights but when her eyes met his, she became submissive, "You can't kick me out," she whispered.

How could she raise her voice at him? Everything about him demanded obedience and she was used to seeing him as someone different, her brother, someone on a high pedestal.

"Look at me," he demanded. Like the submissive woman she was, she needed. She straightened her shoulders and looked into his eyes.

Deep down, she wondered if this was how a military marriage was, she made a note to talk to her friends.

"Don't slouch, or look away when you speak to someone," he reprimanded.

"Ye.. yes." She stuttered.

Normally, she did not slouch or look away from the people she spoke to. He was different. She kept it to herself.

As she looked into his eyes, her cheeks reddened, her eyes became glassy.

"Ahem," he cleared his throat. This time, he was the one to look away.

"Anyway that is all, don't call me brother, don't crossover to my side of the bed and stop slouching, finally, maintain eye contact."

With determination, he turned to look at her, "What else?"

"Can I hold your hands and hug you?" She asked.

He wanted to refute then he recalled they were man and wife already, it would be weird. "Only in public."

"Does that mean you…." She was too embarrassed to voice the rest of her question.

He raised his brow, "What?"

"Never mind"

He frowned, "Don't say that again, if you weren't going to tell me, don't start, only to stop half way."

"Yes." She nodded.

He recalled one more rule, "Oh.. remember we now share a room, you should lock the door if you're indecent."

Lena wanted to protest, weren't they supposed to consummate their marriage? Weren't they supposed to get closer? His rules were keeping them away from each other rather than drawing them closer.

Was he even interested in her?

She gathered courage to question him, "Am I your wife or what?"

Once more, he ruffled his hair in frustration.

"Does your question need answer?" He asked. After which he stood up.

"Go to sleep," he commanded before leaving the room.

He found it weird to lay down by her side when he wasn't even sleepy. So he was making a run for it. He would return when she was asleep.

By 11:40 PM., he returned to the room. Lena was already asleep. He paced. Wondering how to lie on the bed, if it was okay to even lie on the bed and if he should get a bigger bed.

From pacing, he sat on the bed and continued his struggle. He was not sure how long he remained restless or when he fell asleep.

The next morning, Chamberlain stirred in his bed. He felt eyes on him but he pretended to be asleep.

He was sure it was Lena, a stranger would not walk into his house just to watch him sleep.

As he wondered why she was staring at him, he felt her face come closer. Even though he appeared calm on the outside, he was screaming internally.

'What is she doing?'

All these alarms went off in his head, he couldn't pretend any longer and opened his eyes abruptly, startling her.

He rubbed his eyes, "What exactly are you doing?"

"Nothing," she mumbled.

He nodded like he believed her before asking, "Why are you on my side?"

"Actually…."

That was when he realized he was the one breaking his rule.

He hastily sat up, "I apologise... I guess I was too tired."

That was the excuse he made up for himself too. He wasn't one to roll so he wasn't sure how he suddenly moved to her side of the bed.

"When did you come to bed? Your eye bags are startling."

On her comment, he traced them. "I'm not sure."

Lena simply nodded before heading to the bathroom.
