CHAPTER 47: APPLE PANCAKE~ TOPPED WITH MILK GELATO

___

Well about the whole measuring thing... ...

"There isn't really much to measure now"

That's why this time everything will go by hand and for a worry-free, secured and easy way...!

I'll be using this!

"Hot cake mix!"

I couldn't help but grin as I opened the familiar package.

  ―― Hot cake mix

It's like a magical flour.

Thanks to Science and by using the necessary equipments, making confections has been easy as they were able to perfectly mix, formulate and harmonize the necessary ingredients right at its very decimal.

And if you make it just like how it is written at the back of the package, anyone can make a delicious fluffy pancakes.

Before there were only a few types available but now there are all sorts of pancake mix easily accessible for everyone.

There's the kind where you can opt to choose an overly sweet pancake mix or something with less sugar. There's also a hotcake mix with buttermilk powder for a more rich flavour and there's also a type where there's also one mixed with some oil content for those who aims for a something a lot more airy and fluffy texture.

This time, the one I'll be using the one called in Japan as 'pancake' with less sugar than usual. Well a sweet one is indeed delicious but if it is too sweet then it is going to be hard to arrange the dish and by using something with less sugar it would be easier to garnish it.

And so I grabbed a metal bowl and poured the hotcake mix. This time I'm planning on making around 8-10 pieces of pancake. Now all I have to do to make a delicious pancake is to measure the amount of milk to use, add some eggs and milk to make a pancake batter and then fry it but... ... .

"Today I'm planning on using apples"

That's right. Today I'm not just planning on making a simple pancake.

I'm aiming for something easy but deliciously fancy dessert.

So for the time being I placed the already measured ingredients on one corner and then, I grabbed the red apple, I exchanged a while ago.

This time I'm also planning on using the skin so just like the time when I made the detox water, I carefully wash the apple over a running water and did some salt washing.

"Now then, I have to slice it thinly... ..."

After making sure that the apple is washed and clean, I sliced it four parts and then I vertically thinly sliced it around 1~2 milimmiters.

Only this part is a little bit annoying but by properly doing this can give that beautiful appearance. And then after slicing the apple bit by bit, I have to fry it over, the frying pan.

"I'll have to fry this in one go!"

I find it extremely adorable to see the little pieces pile up together

It will still be okay even if it becomes bulky.

Like in a souffle type tamago, some people make it through a merengue type and the way it melts in your mouth is definitely the best. (Souffle omelette pic will be below**)

But I only have a huge frypan and it would have been so much better if I could have a 'serukuru'** to make a perfectly round pancakes but since I don't have one at the moment, this time around, I'll just go for a huge thick round pancake.

(T/n: **my brain cells are probably fried by the antibiotics so they aren't working much but it like a pearl metal kind of container with different shapes. Like when you want a heart shape when you fry your sunny side up or in baking. and though I said metal but nowadays there's the rubber kind. image will be down below)

So for starters, I placed the large frying pan over the dennetsuki and wait for it to warm up in a just right temperature.

And while waiting for it I started whisking the hotcake mix, egg and milk to make a fluffy (bubbly) batter. Just when I was done mixing it, the frypan is finally heating up.

"Now I'm done whisking the ingredients, I need to make a wet dish cloth... ..."

After making the batter, I placed the neatly folded dishcloth over the flat countertop. This dishcloth is also the one that the kitchen always prepares and cleans up, which I'm always thankful for.

Then after wetting the dishcloth, I spread it over the counter and then as I placed the nicely heat up frypan――

―― A sound like jujutu** was made.

"What a nice sound... ..."

When the bottom of a heated frypan makes contact over a wet cloth, a fizzling/sizzling sound is made. And by doing this, it can help lower the temperature where the batter will be pour in the frypan, which has been heated up thoroughly.

It is important to heat the entire frypan, cause if the batter is placed over the pan without heating it it won't have that fluffy texture but if we just use it as is, the batter will easily be burned.

Then, after lowering the temperature, I placed it back over the dennetsuki and then grabbed the butter inside the refrigerator.

The butter easily melts over and while it was still golden in colour, I immediately pour in all the batter and there I can see the batter spreading all over the pan.

As the thick viscosity of the batter spreads amply over the surface of the frypan. As if filling the entirety of the frypan.

"Now then, it is time to arrange the apples."

"Next step, I have to line up the apples"

After saying that, I placed the thinly sliced apples on top of the surface of the batter. As for the arrangement, I started to pile them little by little with a few spaces left as it started to look like a hoshasenjo.

(Eunie: It's some sort of pattern, picture will be down below.)

To wrap the whole surface of the batter, instead of using only ten pieces, I doubled the amount and by doing that, the apple will look like a beautiful blooming flower.

"And just like that, all I have to do now is to cover it with a lid and wait until it is ready"

To make sure that the insides are being cooked properly, I have to bake it in a covered pan while on low fire.

Generally, you just have to fry the first half of it and then flip it over and it will be all good but this time I arranged the slices of apples on top of the batter. That's why it will take a lot more time to fry the first half of the batter.

And since I placed a lot of batters, it will take some time for the batter to be properly cooked. So I have to be more patient with this.

But while waiting, I can start preparing the next step or thing that I might need or cleaning up the things I used or returning the things inside the refrigerator and by doing stuff like that. It is almost time.

"Alright"

While nodding to myself, I remove the lid and a wave of steam comes. As the steam slowly disperse I can see a fluffy golden brown pancake and is twice as big compared to when the batter was still raw.

Thanks to the cover bake frying it in low fire, I can see that the batter is thoroughly cooked between the small spaces of the apples. So now, I have to fry the apples for a bit to give the soften apples a bit of a crisp texture.

Since I placed the apples while the batter was still raw, now that it has been cooked, it looks like it has caved in as if it has been buried in the pancake.

"Time to flip it over!"

That's right. Even though the batter has been thoroughly cooked already, I still want to fry the apples a bit more that's why there's no other option but to flip it over but... ....

dedde de de ,dedde de de ,dedde de de ,dedde de de

Can you hear that? That soundtrack.

That OST for the Mission for that movie!. (Eunie: if you still don't know what movie it is then-o-)

It's that sort of soundtrack that usually plays in your head when doing a procedure like this!

For a pancake-like this and with this size, it's going to be hard to flip it in the usual way.

First, the pancake is huge and since I only have one spatula if the pancake is too soft there's a huge chance that the pancake will crumble.

What's more, since I'm using the entire frying pan and there's no extra space to work within adjusting it, I have to measure it perfectly when I flip it.

It's a Mission Impossible!

A special covert operation is needed!

"... ...Well, as long as I have the lid, it won't be much of a problem."

That's right.

When flipping the pancake, I can use the lid to adjust it and slowly flip it over the pancake and then all I have to is to slide it in back to the frying pan. So there's really nothing much to be worried about.

Yes. BGM off.

It's possible. Possible.

(Eunie: this is funnier cause in the raws, she said it in english 'posshiburu' posshiburu')

That's why I placed the nicely cooked pancake over the lid and despite being quite heavy, I'm glad I was properly able to support its weight then while my other hand is holding the frypan, I placed it back to the dennetsuki and quickly placed the butter and some sugar, I have prepared earlier.

and then a juju-tu sound came as the butter started to melt and then I held the frying pan and rolled the butter around and then I can see it slowly turning brown.

"I wonder why the caramel's fragrance is so good... ..."

This sweet smelling aroma spreading inside the kitchen... ...

It's rich, sweet and fragrant... ...

I took a huge gulped as it really can't be helped with this mouthwatering fragrance.

"All that's left now is to placed the pancake back here... ..."

I slowly slid down the part with thinly slices apples and placed it back inside the frying pan and upon the contact with the frying pan, the juices the apple slowly intertwines with the caramel, making it more fragrant and enticing.

Just imagine it.

The sweet, soft fragrance of the butter.

Combined with a little bit with the sweet smell of the apple tinge with a bit of sourness... ...

That flavor...

"This is bad"

Seriously bad.

The fact that there's no doubt that this is delicious is bad.

I can't stop this mouthwatering feeling. As I gulp in again and again.

I made sure to watch it carefully as the liquid part slowly evaporates while making sure it wouldn't be burned. And then all I have to do is flip it again, on top of the huge chopping board... ...

"Its an Apple Pancake!"

A fluffy~fluffy pancake, topped with a caramelized apple with a crisp texture.

SUFFER WITH ME. ^^

"It looks so delicious... ...ack...it's hot!"

I heartily muttered.

And then while it is still hot, I immediately divided it into four parts while fighting with the heat.

Though it's a lot better to slice it once it has cool down but I want to eat a freshly cooked pancake.

And just as usual as if the kitchen is one step ahead of me, it prepared 3 plates for each of us.

Me and Ryleigh-kun will get 1/4 each while Hurst-san gets 2/4. It's around half of it.

For a snack, it is quite big. But I'm sure Hurst-san can finish it in a few bites.

... ... But then I'll still ask, "Isn't it too much?"

I can't help but wonder, how Hurst-san will answer.

I'm sure with his poker face he'll say "There's no problem" as his light blue eyes sparkles.

I couldn't help but feel my face muscles loosening――Just thinking about Hurst-san's expression...

"No, no. Stop grinning! I still have to do some finishing touches"

That's right this isn't the time for me to grin like this.

What's more, this last step is a must-do especially when it is still piping hot.

And as if to shake off my idle thoughts away, I shook my head once and then grabbed the milk gelato, I left inside the freezer and then I used the huge spoon that the kitchen gave to scoop some and placed it on top of the pancake.

A piping hot pancake combined with silky smooth gelato as it slowly melts over it.

Now, with this its complete!!
―― An apple pancake topped with milk gelato!

" “It's done ” ! "
