"Usurper," a single voice whispered. Its voice was quiet on the verge of fading away. I existed in the void. Static filled my ears as my mind processed my day. "Usurper," the voice growled this time it was closer cutting through the static. "Usurper," more voices joined with the first voice closing in around me. My eyes snapped open, but I was paralyzed in the realm of dreamless sleep. "Usurper," the voices joined into a roar. The static grew louder and I was falling. Wind whistled through my ears as if fell hard on a stone surface.
Slowly, the paralysis left me, and I got to me feet. I stomped my foot against the stone ground, and it felt solid. "Usurper," the voices called. I covered my ears as the voices grew louder shaking my eardrums and rattling my skull. I wiped my nose covering my hand in blood. I looked around.
All the windows were broken. Stain glass images of demons and angels lay on the floor creating a type of mosaic. The roof of the church was torn apart leaving behind wrecked parts of the upper floors. On one of the pews was a solid tome with a 11-pointed shape on the cover. Everything about this place was unfamiliar. It looked like a Lovecraftian fanatics idea of a church. Here we worship the great eleven shaped old one. Look we have stained glass windows and pews. Aren't we official? Please government give us tax benefits.
On the dais was a wreckage that could have been massive 11-pointed star with half of a skull in the center of it. Only half the skull was missing along with the other half of the star. The surface of the star had places were jewels were once encrusted. Now it was an empty chunk of metal and wood. All that was left of the skull was the jawbone. I sat on one of the pews. It seemed the voices couldn't find me here.
I opened the tome and saw a collection of symbols that I didn't recognize. They were hieroglyphs, runes, or whatever the technical term was they weren't English. Many of the animals looked like Egyptian sand script but were of unrecognizable animals. "Usurper," the voices rose again dangerously close.
I didn't say a word. Somewhere in my gut they seemed familiar. I had no idea how I arrived on my current world. Where I am now could be a dream or an illusion. The possibilities were endless, so it was better to not answer.
The door to the church smashed open revealing a creature made of shadows. Its shaped changed into that of a muzzled wolf. When its eyes fell on me, I saw recognition in its eyes. "Usurper," it said but couldn't shout. Its paw rose and attempted to remove its muzzle but couldn't. The leather straps were too tight. Instead it leapt at me using its back legs.
I moved into the strike, ducked under the claw, turned around, wrapped my arms under its shoulder, and used its momentum to steer it from an attack into a pew. It happened in the time it took to blink and then the shadow wolf went crashing into a pew. These pews didn't slide out of the way, they were nailed down. When the wolf hit, he splintered them bludgeoning himself with his own momentum.

My body was shaking. Everything felt so real. This was a dream, I knew it was, but it was also very real. I spat out a glob of blood from the voices earlier. I heard the wood splinter and crack and turned to the slow to rise wolf. Its yellow eyes were wide with disbelief. "Usurper," it growled in conformation. The wolf scratched at its muzzle trying to free itself from the restriction. A chuckle escaped my lips.
I moved like an arrow. The wolf rose up faster than I expected and slashed me with its claws. Deep lines of blood emerged on my chest before quickly healing.

Once again, the wolf seemed astonished. Then it nodded its head once. Was that conformation? I moved again to get close. Grappling was easier when my opponent made the first move. A surprise would have also been better. The wolf was ready it slashed at me again with its claws.
I summoned wyrmling to my hand my index finger glowed orange with flames and developed a dragon's talon. I stabbed my finger through the wolf's paw. Its claws raked against my wrist as my finger burned through the paw. Its back legs launched the massive wolf once again giving me exactly what I wanted. This time I twisted the monster sending it down on its back. Before it could mount a defense, a dragon talon appeared on my left middle finger. I used it to cut open the wolf's belly spilling its guts out. The wolf cried out in agony as I leapt away from it.
Just as I thought I won; I heard the word again. "Usurper," came three voices. Three clouds of smoke appeared around the fallen shadow wolf. These creatures were shadowy humanoids. Their eyes were the same yellow as the wolf. Their mouths were sewn shut but their hands had viscous shark like mouths on them. They dug into the wolf's guts as it whimpered and screamed. I had no idea where I was or what was going on. I thought these guys were with the wolf, but I must have been mistaken.
While they consumed the wolf, they were possessed by a frenzy. Like sharks who smell blood they were not themselves. I stepped out of the church and everything returned to static. I didn't really know what happened. I woke up covered in sweat and on the second floor of the hay loft.
