‘Aren’t we rushing into marriage?’ Da Tian Ting asked. ‘Marriage is sacred to me. I don’t want us to divorce if later we find out we’re not compatible.’
‘We’re not rushing into marriage,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘We’ve known each other for more than twenty years. Compared to other married couples, we’re slow.’
‘What twenty years?’ Da Tian Ting asked. ‘We met as children, but we were separated for sixteen years. I don’t know what you’ve done for the last sixteen years. I only know your name, and that you’re Feng’s company’s heir. I haven’t met your family. What if your family don’t approve of me?’
Feng Kai Ze squeezed Da Tian Ting’s nose.
‘Little dummy, leave everything to me,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘You only need to prepare to be my bride.’

Da Tian Ting walked ahead of Feng Kai Ze, and her heart fluttered. In the past she didn’t take his marriage proposals seriously. But after she spent weeks with him and got to know him, she realised he did want to marry her.

‘Tian Ting, soon you’ll be my bride,’ Feng Kai Ze whispered in Da Tian Ting’s ear. ‘You’ll be Mrs Feng for life.’
‘Don’t stand close to me,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘We’re in public.’
Feng Kai Ze smiled, he didn’t let go of Da Tian Ting’s waist and they walked toward a shop that sold jewellery.
‘Wow,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘This intricate diamond necklace is beautiful.’
Da Tian Ting used to wish Shang Duan Hua would buy her a lover’s token. She would have been happy with a cheap necklace, because it was the gesture that mattered to her.
Da Tian Ting was grateful Shang Duan Hua never gave her a gift, because it would be a waste to throw it out after their break up.
‘Tian Ting, do you like this necklace?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
‘Yes,’ Da Tian Ting said.
‘Come with me inside,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Feng Kai Ze held Da Tian Ting’s hand, and he took her into the shop.
‘Little monkey, what are you doing?’ Da Tian Ting asked.
‘What else can I do in a shop that sells jewellery?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
Feng Kai Ze waved a shop assistant to a display cabinet.
‘I want to buy this necklace for my girlfriend,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
‘Sir, I’m sorry,’ the shop assistant said. ‘Another customer reserved this necklace. The customer is coming here today to pick it up.’
Da Tian Ting was a little disappointed the necklace had an owner. She squeezed Feng Kai Ze’s hand to signal them to leave.
‘I’ll pay double to buy this necklace,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
‘Sir, I’m sor…’ the shop assistant.
‘Little monkey, don’t burn money crazily,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘I don’t need this necklace. Let’s leave.’

‘But every day I earn a hundred times more money than the money I spend,’ Feng Kai Ze said.

‘Why are you laughing?’ Da Tian Ting asked. ‘I’m being serious, it’s not good to waste another person’s money.’
‘Tian Ting, you don’t need to worry,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘Every dollar I spend on you is a dollar I earned.’

‘Mr Genius, tell me, what do you do for a living?’ Da Tian Ting asked. ‘I don’t believe geniuses can play all day and still earn money.’
