Chapter Seventeen

Da Tian Ting knew she shouldn’t care. But her eyes didn’t listen, and tears flowed down her cheeks.

‘Da Tian Ting, it’s not worth crying over a heartless man,’ Da Tian Ting said to herself. ‘You and Shang Duan Hua are strangers. You should walk away, and move on with your life.’

Da Tian Ting felt like it took her forever to return to her apartment. She put her grocery bags on the floor, and sterilized her wounds.

Da Tian Ting chanted to herself to forget the painful past, because tomorrow was a fresh start.

The following morning, Da Tian Ting woke up early, dressed and went to work.

Da Tian Ting didn’t care if her manager cursed her for skipping a day off work or deduct her monthly pay, because she saved a lot of money.

‘Da Tian Ting, how can you be so irresponsible?’ Miss Ma asked. ‘You didn’t even call to say you won’t coming into work yesterday. Don’t you want to work here anymore? If you don’t then tell me so I can find someone to replace you.’

‘Manager Ma, of course I want to work here,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘Look at my hands and legs. How could I come into work yesterday if I was injured?’

Da Tian Ting prayed for forgiveness for lying.

Miss Ma’s heart softened after seeing Da Tian Ting’s injuries.

‘Even if you’re injured, you should have called in sick,’ Miss Ma said. ‘If all employees are irresponsible like you then the company would close down their doors.’

‘Manager Ma, I’m sorry,’ Da Tian Ting said.

‘It’s good you admitted your mistake,’ Miss Ma said. ‘I’m deducting your monthly bonus for this month. Get back to work.’

‘Yes manager Ma,’ Da Tian Ting said.

Da Tian Ting went back to her desk after being told off by her manager. She sorted through the pile of paper work accumulated from skipping one day off work.

Ding Xiao Ran saw Da Tian Ting back at work, and went to Da Tian Ting’s desk.

‘Tian Ting, you won’t at work yesterday,’ Ding Xiao Ran said. ‘What happened?’

‘Nothing,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘I was robbed.’

Da Tian Ting didn’t keep anything valuable in her stolen old bag. A day ago she was sad about her ex-fiance. But in the morning, she felt refreshed.

‘What?’ Ding Xiao Ran asked. ‘You were robbed? What did you lose? Are you OK?’

Ding Xiao Ran’s loud voice attracted the attention of the other employees.

‘Tian Ting, where was your fiance?’ Ding Xiao Ran asked. ‘Isn’t he always with you? How can he let you be robbed?’

‘I don’t have a fiance anymore,’ Da Tian Ting said.

‘What do you mean you don’t have a fiance?’ Ding Xiao Ran asked.
