"Um... this..." The Head Chef stammered as she examined the ingredients.

"Yes?" She prompted him to speak without looking at him.

"Um... We- I... I am aware you said you don't need help but... may I... watch...?" Th Head Chef stammerd out his request, afraid to anger her and be denied.

Shen Tianyu looked up at him and his assistant with a hand on a box of eggs. "As long as you two aren't in my way, you can watch. Just stand by the door."

""Thank you Wangfei!"" They both uttered at the same time and hurried to stand by the door. From the proud way the both of them had talked about the stove and how clean it was despite the fading runes that they were quite proud of and attached to it. Since she didn't even know how to operate the stove, they were probably worried she'd do something wrong and damage it.

She grabbed all the ingredients she needed and proceeded to move to the long table beside the stove. She went to the sink on one side of the kitchen and thoroughly wasehed her hands in the cold water. Going back to the long table and placing an empty porcelain plate next to the stove, she took one of the eggs, she cracked it against an empty bowl and dropped the insides into the bowl. She added a few more eggs before she started to whisk them by hand. After they had reached a certain yellow color, she set it aside and took out the cutting board. She chopped up some leeks and ripped a few leaves of lettuce into smaller pieces. Putting them all into the bowl of eggs, she mixed them together until she thought the egg batter was thoroughly filled with pieces of vegetation. Again, she set the bowl aside and went on to cut up some slices of beef and pork. She sparked a fire to light the oven with her own spiritual power and put a wok on one of the openings on the stove. Adding some oil, she let the pan heat up as she put the newly minced meat and the rest of the leftover minced leek an dlettuces into a separate bowl and added some salt, which she had confirmed with the Head Chef, before she kneaded them together with her hands, and set it down when the wok had begun to sizzle. She took up a wooden spoon and scooped some of the eggs she had whisked and dumped half a spoonful into the sizzling wok. She quickly set aside the wooden spoon and the bowl of eggs and took some of the minced meat and vegetables to put them into the frying egg concotion along with some more salt. Taking a wooden spatula hanging on the wall, she waited for the eggs to solidify enough to be picked up by a spatula. When she deemed the time was right, she flipped one side of the egg omelet and pressed it into the side that was still in contact with the wok to seal it. As she held her spatula on the egg omelet to seal it, she looked down at the fireplace to check the fire. Seeing that it was still burning, she went back to the omelet and flipped it over to fry the other side a bit more. She then lifted the omelet with her spatula and put it onto the empty plate. She repeated the process until all of her egg batter was gone and snuffed out the fire in the fireplace with her spiritual power.

She then took the wok and put it in the sink, which was just a hollow in the brick used to make up the long table further from the stove. Pouring some water in it, she left it there as it sizzled from the quick change in temperature. She then took the nearly empty bowls and utensils to the sink before proceeding to wash them. The last thing she washed was the wok so she didn't accidentally burn herself from it's heat of coming right out of the stove. After she dried her hands, the leftover ingredients were put back onto the table in the middle of the room. She finally turned to the Head Chef and his assistant that had been watching her the entire time. "When are you guys setting up the dining table?"

"Um... We should be called to set up for dinner in less than half an incese stick's time." The Head Chef replied.

"Hm... It took that long?" She mumbled to herself. "Okay. I neeed to go back to change so if you would please watch over my omelets. I want to bring it myself."

"Understood!" The Head Chef stood up straighter and moved out of the way as she came over. The assistant also silently moved to the side so she could get to the door.

As she walked back to her courtyard without a guide, she couldn't help but rub her arms at the cold temperature around her. 'It's still not as good as when I was living alone... Well, stoves here are more difficult to regulate because the fire is burning at different temperatures and angles even if the opening is right on top of the fire...  I'm more glad that I didn't burn anything.' She thought to herself as she walked down the almost empty roads. She entered her room in her assigned courtyard to see the Head Maid and her assistant still inside the room, in the same places they were when she left. The room was still warm from the heating system so Shen Tianyu relaxed a bit more when she stepped into the room from the freezing cold outside.

"Wangfei, is there anything we can do?" The old Head Maid ofered as she entered and stood up.

"I just want to change into warmer clothing before going to dinner." Shen Tianyu told her as she walked behind the partition screen and towards her closet. It wasn't a walk-in closet but it was definitely bigger than the other ones she has seen in this world. The two other women followed after her and stood by the partition. She decided to pick out a thick set of clothes with some fur around the collar and ends of the sleeves in addition to some at the end of the skirt. The two servants went up and helped her change into it despite her saying she didn't need help for such simple clothing. She managed to get changed and went back to the kitchen.

This time, unlike before, th ekitchen was bustling with servants preparing to set the table for dinner. Every moment, there were servants going into and coming out of the building. The door never fully closed before it was opened again. She sidestepped all the servants rushing past her and giving her their greetings as they rushed about. She returned their greetings as she went up to the Head Chef directing everything. When the latter saw her, he went up to her on his own. "Wangfei, I have your dish right her by the stove, no one has moved it." He told her as he led her to the side fo the stove where she had set down her plate of food. Indeed, it was still there untouched, not even a single bite missing. She prefunctorily thanked the Head Chef and took her plate of food. Walking with the other kitchen servants, she arrived at Rong Jian's courtyard.

She stepped to side to let all the others that were setting up the table pass and went in at the back of the line. As she entered the room, she saw Rong Jian's eye light up.

"I already told you, I can't make anything fancy. See if it's to your liking." She told him immediately as she set the plate of omelets down on the table in front of him. She then smoothed the skirt of her robes and sat down across from him as the servants finished up with bringing the dishes and setting up the table.

"I'm looking forward to Tian'er's cooking!" Rong Jian smiled as he stared at the plate she had placeddown, as if not wanting to wait. Once everything was put in place and the servants were no longer streaming in, he grabbed his chopsticks and went straight for her dish of omelets. She took up her chopsticks after him, as she always did at his residence, and took a piece of pig liver stewed in beef sauce and cooked with bak choy. She watched his reaction as she picked up some rice from her bowl and put it in her mouth along with the pig liver.

"It's delicious!" He exclaimed after swallowing a piece of her omelet.

"It's not that great. I think your chefs still make better food than I do." She told him as she thought he was overreacting. It was one of the simplest dishes a person can make and she had eaten it by herself many times before, she knew what it tasted like. It definitely didn't measure up to the gourmet level food of a Wangfu's chef. All hail the almighty wok
