I am moved by the rate at which many people have died – and are dying - from ignorance. Ignorance is a state of being uninformed, having no understanding, knowledge, education, or awareness. I have been called in spirit several times to write a book. I have only recently obeyed the call – resulting in this. I feel this is a practical demonstration of what you, dear reader, will discover, is preached in this book. Everyone should appreciate the gifts they are endowed with. Once a gift in someone is appreciated and optimally utilised, it becomes a powerful instrument for the person to excel.

Martin Luther King, Jr., the most important voice of the American civil rights movement, stated: "Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Equally, it is interesting to note that James Madison, the 4th President of the United States, and who is famous for writing the first drafts of the US Constitution, which eventually became the Constitution of the United States, categorically said: "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." The realisation that one has the capability to identify his talent and unlock his own potential is really empowering. This has motivated me to write this book.

I see myself as one being in a position to get others informed. My experiences as a classroom teacher, a Head of Department in a school system, a Dean of studies in another institution, a Senior Mistress (Academics), a Vice Principal (Administration), a School Principal, an Inspector of Education, and a Co-ordinator of many other established organisations and associations, have given me the impetus to write boldly on my findings and consequently, empower the uninformed on the need to unlock the potentials in them, through the gifts they have.

Experience, it is often said, is the best teacher. I have seen it all in the area of student management, staff management, school management, and general administration. The various workshops I have attended, locally and internationally, also exposed me to some of the findings presented in this book. In this work I have adopted simple diction, to avoid any complications in theme, message or delivery. I know my target audience – students, teachers, parents, unemployed, physically challenged, business men & women, government officials, political office holders, administrators, girl-child, and boy-child. It is not my wish to write for writing sake, but rather, to convey a message.

My days as a classroom teacher and a school administrator were all dedicated to the ultimate grooming of the leaders of tomorrow, most of whom I am proud to note are successful today. Most of them I am honoured to say, humble me with their pride of my being their mentor. With what experience I have, I consider it timely to obey that clarion call, and bring pen and paper together, to make my own contribution towards human development, through intellectual means. As a 'builder', which many of my associates call me, and 'a woman of vision', which some groups have tagged me, this is another way of demonstrating societal concerns.

I have thought of a gift to all and settled on this … It is a present for all time. This, of course, is simply echoing Garrison Keillor, an American author, story teller, humorist, and radio personality, who observed that: "A book is a gift you can open again and again."

Be empowered with this token.
