“Scared?” Zhang Zhongmin finally fixed his eyes on Yang Zicong who was kneeling on the ground.

”Who’s not scared? Who’s not afraid? Go ask the others, ask everyone who went out today, who wasn’t afraid!”

“As long as you obey orders , as long as you follow the plan, today tragedies will not happen!”

The tone in Zhang Zhongmin’s voice made it clear he was furious. They were lucky they could quickly recovered the trucks. They smoothly gathered the clothes, then set out to scavenge for food with a squad of five and left six to guard.

But Yang Zicong was jealous he couldn’t scavenged food. He believes the others would try to sneak and hide food in secret. So, he persuaded the others to go together, with conviction he said that it was useless to stand guard at the door, since there was no zombie.

Eventhough, they all ate a full meal yesterday night and in the morning. It wasn’t enough for him. Yang Zicong managed to convinced the others. They sneaked to a sideshop across the street and pried the door open.

When the door opened, zombies inside the shop pounced on them. Apparently the zombies were stucked inside, and there were a dozen of them. The group was frightened and was about to run. But their frightened legs refuse to moved.

Seeing a zombie about to pounced at him, Yang Zicong grabbed a woman beside him and pushed her hard.

A scream filled with fear and despair shooked the skies.

Zhang Zhongmin was collecting supplies on the opposite side, heard it and rushed out. He saw Yang Zicong pushed his companion into the zombie to escape the zombie’s mouth. He felt his head explode at the time. He was furious.

He gritted his teeth, and took command to save them. They managed to save only five or six men, half of them were gone. Even Zhang Zhongmin eyes couldn’t help grew red.

Yang Zicong pitiful cry echoes around the students who hadn’t been through the tragedy. They couldn’t bear to see Yang Zicong’s sad cries and confessions.

Maybe, Yang Zi Cong didn’t do it on purpose. His mind went blank as the zombie pounced to bite him. His first reaction was to throw something over and block the walkers, so it’s likely to be a reflexive action.

He must have regretted it afterwards too. The crowd couldn’t help but make excuses for Yang Zicong in their hearts as he cried miserably.

“Regret?” Zhang Zhongmin’s pitch-black eyes stared Yang Zicong.

Yang Zicong nodded hastily: ”I regret it, I really regret it, Captain I am no human, I’m really not a man. Mom. I’m not a human being. I really didn’t think I’d do anything like that!”

He gave himself a slap on the cheek as he spoke. The sound was clear on this quiet playground.

“Captain, he knows it’s all wrong and didn’t mean it, just forgive him this time.”

The crowd, not knowing who it was, picked up the courage to say something. As if this sentence seemed to flip some kind of switch, there were still people who thought that Zhang Zhongmin was going too far. Looking at the kneeling Yang Zicong on the ground pathetically.

“Captain, this is Yang Zicong first time, he must be scared to see those zombies. He might be momentarily flustered and didn’t think that much of his action.”

It was as if this person could even know exactly why Yang Zicong had done that.

“He already feels guilty, we should give him a chance.”

“That’s right Captain, give him a chance. Yang Zi Cong knows its wrong.”

The voices are coming out in endless layers and getting stronger. Hearing everyone speak for him, a gleam of hope flashed in Yang Zicong eyes, who was crying miserably.

However, Zhang Zhongmin turned his eyes away and looked at the large crowd who were in an uproar:

”Do you feel sorry for him? You think he didn’t mean it? What about those who died? What about the woman who was thrusted into the mouth of a zombie by his own innocent hand!”

The resounding voice sent everyone into silence. Perhaps because it’s getting darker and colder, everyone feels a shiver and chill on their backs.

“Do you know what the first scene was when I saw them?” Zhang Zhong Min sneered coldly,

”Yang Zi Cong grabbed a woman with his left hand and threw him over, and was relieved to find that he had successfully blocked the zombie. Seeing another zombie pouncing on his right, he quickly took a few steps up and dragged the one in front of him and threw him over. That smug smile on his face is still clear in my mind.”

“He’s not as panicked and flustered as you say, he’s not as freaked out as you say. He has exactly the look of someone who thinks he’s cunning and clever!”

Zhang Zhongmin looked at the pale Yang Zicong: ”A life for a life, count how many people you threw over. When I arrived, you already threw three people to death.”

He threw a dagger in front of Yang Zi Cong: “Since you regret it, then you will repay them with your life, one life against several lives, and you earned it.”

Saying that, they loosened the rope at his side. Looking at Zhang Zhongmin’s expressionless face, everyone couldn’t help but be afraid. Even though the crowd at the back couldn’t see, they felt the fear in the cold-hearted voice.

The tension in the air intensify instantly!

“No, no, no, Captain, Captain I really know it’s wrong, Captain!”

Yang Zicong was loosened from the rope, but he couldn’t help but retreat backwards as if he saw some kind of abomination on the ground. Panicking, he shook his head and looked at Zhang Zhongmin as if he was more terrifying than a zombie.

“Do you know that in the midst of these apocalypse, the horror is not the zombie. Instead, it’s people with bad intentions!” Zhang Zhongmin said with a hard face,

”In front of the disaster, as long as we work together, everything will not be a problem. We will surely build our home well and one day the light will shine on this dark land.”

“But if everyone is like you. Pushing your fellow friends out when you’re in danger.” Zhang Zhongmin looked around at the group,

“There is only endless darkness ahead of us!”

Yang Zicong, who was sitting limply on the ground, twisted his face, reached out and grabbed the dagger on the ground and rushed straight over.

“I’ll kill you!!!”

Zhang Zhongmin’s face turned cold as he reached out and grabbed the hand that was holding the dagger and twisted it slightly. He broke Yang Zicong’s hand effortlessly.

“Ah!” Yang Zicong cried out in pain, dripping with cold sweat.

The hand that held the dagger loosened weakly. The sound of the dagger dropping to the ground made it scary to hear. No one expected that Yang Zicong would actually try to kill Zhang Zhongmin.

Those who were still speaking for Yang Zicong at first, stopped in surprise. They regret it, even though rabbits bite when they’re pushed. But Yang Zicong’s clearly not a rabbit.

Before, it was only the men in Zhang Zhongmin’s squad, and now all the Captains had chilled their hearts.

Anyone who knew Zhang Zhongmin knew the reason why Zhang Zhongmin did not take matters into his own hands. He just want to give Yang Zicong punishment. But now this man certainly won’t stay in school anymore.

As long as he sincerely repented, Zhang Zhongmin would definitely not kill him. Yet now it seems that the repentance that comes out of his mouth is not sincere repentance at all. Zhang Zhongmin simply threw a dagger over and broke his mask of disguise.

“Squad leader, I propose to execute Yang Zicong, if he is spared, he will surely wait for an opportunity for revenge.” Liu Guoan proposed.

    Executions …..

“You can’t do this, you can’t! This is a modern society, a legal society, how can you act inhumane!” Hearing Liu Guoan’s suggestion, Yang Zicong burst out screaming.

“That’s right, you killed a few people on purpose. It’s enough to sentence you to death.” Xiao Bin opened his mouth, ”Squad leader, this man, although he is a human, does not do what a human do. Even if he doesn’t stay in the school and we spared him, he will surely attack other citizens later. I recommend execution.”

“Lu Xuan, what do you think?” Zhang Zhongmin let go of Yang Zicong. He was immediately held by those who were standing guard to avoid him making a mess.

Lu Xuan hesitate for a moment, he was a nervous. Even if he had killed zombies, even if he was smart to know how to deal with them. Even after training a squad of sixteen. He was just a student, just an ordinary junior art student before the end. As for Zhang Zhongmin’s question, he was at a loss.

Is Yang Zi Cong at fault? Indeed his actions are wrong. But should he really be executed? Lu Xuan did not know, yet it was like Xiao Bin said.

This man has absolutely no sense of repentance, if indeed they don’t kill him and spared him. It is one thing if he wait for an opportunity to retaliate, but there’s a good chance that other citizens will be harmed.

Of course, it’s also possible he got bitten by a zombie and die outside, or become a zombie. But, there’s also the possibility of turning into a superhuman.

“I don’t know.” Lu Xuan pursed his lips tightly, his brain scrambling.

In fact, he knew that killing Yang Zicong was undoubtedly the best option. But there is a saying ‘no man is without fault”. But what he didn’t know was whether he should give Yang Zicong this chance to reform himself. Would he really change if given the chance?

Zhang Zhongmin glanced at Lu Xuan and saw the confusion in his eyes.

“There is no way to take him to court and convict him through the formal procedures of the State. Then let’s go through the voting process.” Zhang Zhong Min said to the crowd.

“Anyone agree to kill him, stand to the left. Those who wants to banish him, stand in the middle. Those who want to forgive him, stand to the right.”

When he finished, the crowd exchanged glances. It took a while before people stepped over to the left. Then the others start to move.

There were crowd standing in the middle, many of them didn’t know how they should choose, and some of them felt that killing Yang Zicong would be too much to their hearts and conscience.

But none of them stepped over to the right. On the dimly lit playground, silhouettes floated. Some wanted to go to the left, but hesitated to go back and forth. Someone stood towering in the middle.

Yang Zicong’s eyes filled with blood as he looked at the person walking to the left, his teeth almost gnashing.

Qiu Yinlan felt anxious in the crowd. But there was nothing she could do, as she stood on the left. Looking at the crowd in the middle, it was obvious at a glance that there were more than the left.

There was some worry in her heart, but aside from her, there were people closely related to the him. It was inevitable.

‘I know what will happen afterwards, but I can’t stop it, it’s really heartbreaking.’

    “Everyone in position?”

Looking at the crowd as if they’ve chosen their finalized position. Zhang Zhongmin opened his mouth and asked. There is no need to count at all. There were more people in the middle than on the left.
