Chapter 65

There are about 2000 abnormals in that town. Rahul said that there should have been more. The town is certainly big enough for 12000 people.

But that's neither here nor there.

We need to deal with the situation at hand instead of thinking useless thoughts.

I'm pretty sure Rahul has dozens of ways to deal with this situation. I myself can think of a few ways to go about clearing the town. But I'm pretty sure he'll create the best plan for us.

That means that I don't need to worry my head over it. And I can have my rest in the calm before the storm.

After ten minutes of intense hushed whispers, they finally came up with a simple plan. (And by 'they' I mean Rahul, Jasvinder, Gaurav and Upma.)

The simple plan was:- To hunt the abnormals in the dark alleys.

It was a full moon and the eyesight of 2nd and 3rd tier abnormals is not very bad. Okay who am I kidding. It's very bad. But it's still far better than that of 1st tier abnormals. Specially the 3rd tier abnormals.

We don't want one of them to find our location and scream on top of it's lungs in order to warn his buddies. That would awake the horde which would then complicate the situation. And by 'complicate the situation', I mean it would put us in serious danger.

So we can't let the abnormals see us. Even by mistake.

Thus, we gotta stick to the dark side tonight.

The dark alleys in the town suited our needs perfectly.

So… Step one is to clear the alleys. No wait… Step one is to search for any 3rd tier abnormals.

If they're in the block, then we leave that block for later.

After we've made sure that there are no 3rd tier abnormals, we clear the alley of any abnormal presence.

Step next:- Lure the bastards from the streets. Kill the bastards in the alley.

See. Easy peasy Japaneesy.

"Now let's get moving." Rahul said in a no nonsense voice. In the voice of a leader.

—————

I looked at the alley Gaurav had discreetly told me to get into and scrunched up my nose in distaste.

When they told me we were going to hunt in the alleys, they didn't say that they alleys would be so… filthy.

Now I'm no ultra hygienic person by any means. But I have my standards.

But this was an apocalypse. You don't get much choice in here anymore. You just learn to deal with what you get.

I gently lowered myself down to the alley which was overflowing with sewer water with a 'squelch' and tried to ignore the horrendous smell emanating from there.

Thankfully, there were no abnormals in here.

'Seems like they have a standard of hygiene as well.' I thought with a chuckle.

'Focus on the mission now Ashok.' Lily's gentle yet reprimanding voice rang in my ears.

'Yes maam.' I bowed in mock salute and then started to observe the situation outside.

The number of abnormals in the street was rather low. Much lower than the other streets.

About 50 or so. And they were scattered throughout the whole area.

'It seems that Gaurav wants us to start slowly.' I mused and peeked at the other alleys where the other four were hiding.

Yeah, we were working in three groups of 5 people each.

Jasvinder and Upma lead one team. Rahul lead a team of his own. And Gaurav lead a team on his own.

I was assigned to join his team, since Gaurav is not yet capable of handling a 3rd tier abnormal on his own in case something goes wrong.

I gently brought the sword out of the spatial ring and started to hit it on the nearby wall which generated a soft 'tick tick' sound.

No one came.

Then I slowly increased the intensity of the sound and soon enough, I saw a response from one of abnormal who turned to look in my direction but saw nothing because of the darkness.

He stopped combing his non-existent hair and raised his nose to sniff the air.

I don't think he would smell anything except the horrendous stench emanating from the sewer water.

Then, as if losing interest, he turned his face away and continued combing his bloodied head that was missing chunks of flesh by now with a non-existent comb.

'I would never get used to their antics.' I mused to myself and hit the sword on the wall a few more times.

The abnormal jerked it's head in my direction and since it's bad eyesight didn't help him with anything, he starting sniffing the air once again. After finding nothing, he made to turn about but heard the 'tick tick' sound once again.

Curious, he started to move.

—————

I looked at the 13 corpses in the dark and then at the street which was now empty of abnormals.

The 50 or so abnormals had been killed by us five within half an hour.

Was this method slow?

Yes.

But it was a safe way to of doing things.

It may need patience and it may need time. But if you can kill 50 abnormals without your team members getting so much as a scratch then why would I stop it.

After putting down the last of the abnormals, we went to the next block and continued on with the good work.

—————

Rahul and his team had taken the middle street which was the most crowded and dangerous but also provided with the most number of crystals.

Jasvinder and Upma had taken the street on the right and we had taken the one on the left.

Ours had the lowest number of abnormals. 300. So it did not come as much of a surprise to me when we finished our blocks before the other two teams.

It had been three hours since we started the clean up of this town. And we still had more than 5 hours of darkness with us.

That was plenty of time to deal with the abnormals in this town.

Thankfully, this town had only 2000 abnormals. And not the 12000 Rahul had first assumed.

I don't know how we would have been able to kill that many abnormals.

It would have been tiresome. And we would no doubt have to take a more aggressive approach over a few days to clean it up.

After we had cleaned up our blocks, Gaurav told us to take a short break after which we'll continue from the other other end of the middle street in order to lighten the burden of Rahul's team.

The four of them were sitting merrily on the side of the streets eating chocolates and other such things.

I was standing on top of the tallest building and looking at Rahul's and Jasvinder's team.

And I did not like what I saw.
